Where are you William and Julia Applegate?? Researching the parents of Samuel Applegate born 1821 in Lancaster County, PA. His parents were most likely William and Julia(n) Applegate. I have extensive information on Samuel and his 11 children and his two wives. By 1850 Samuel was living in Green County, Kentucky and was married with children. By 1853 at the latest he was residing in the Champaign, Illinois area. During the Civil War and after the death of his wife, Samuel abandoned his family of 8 children. Stories are sketchy but some of the children may have seen him a few times after that. Samuel then remarried and had 3 more children. He died in 1881 and was never reunited with his 8 oldest children. His children scattered into Illinois, Missouri, Texas, California and other locations. Samuel F, my great grandfather and one of his sons, denied that his dad had remarried and had any more children. It is clear however that my Samuel was wrong. I have run into major stumbling blocks in PA. There does not appear to be! any record of this family except for Census entries. I believe I have traced them as far back as 1820, but do not have any other supporting evidence for this claim. Ladell Applegate Wiggins (APPLEGATERME@AOL.COM) has done extensive and exhaustive research on our branch of the Applegate's but we are well and truly stuck. Hugh Voress also did some searching in Lancaster County and came up with nothing. Hopefully someone out there somewhere will have that clue that we are seeking to find our William and Julia(n) APPLEGATE! Regards, Tiffany
