I think several or maybe all of us have heard the story that all Applegates in America are related to Thomas Applegate. I don't remember when he immigrated to America but I THINK he came from England. Have any of you heard this story? LaVelle LaVelle, I have Thomas APPLEGATE born between 1590 - 1604 in Norfolk, Norfolkshire, England, son of John Applegate.. He married about 1620 in Norfolk, England to: Elizabeth Mary WALL, born 1604 in Norfolk, England. Thomas died between 1656 - 1662 in Gravesend, Breukelen, Niew Nederland Colony. (I love this part, as I have living Italian relatives who grew up in Gravesend Bay, Brooklyn, New York. Gravesend Bay is next to Coney Island. So they never changed the name, just Anglicized the spelling.) Elizabeth Mary died 1674 in Middlesex County, New Jersey, and is interred at Old Dutch Cemetery in Middlesex County, New Jersey. I show that they had at least, two sons: Thomas B. APPLEGATE born about 1632 in Gravesend, Breukelen, Niew Nederland Colony. Bartholomew APPLEGATE (I have no other information on this son and I sometimes wonder if Thomas' middle initial didn't stand for Bartholomew and he went by his middle name to avoid confusion with his father. Just a guess.) Thomas B. died 1 Feb 1699 in Nutswamp Middleton, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Thomas B. married 1678 in Monmouth County, New Jersey to: Joanna GIBBONS, born 1653 in Norfolk, England, died date unknown in Nutswamp, New Jersey. The children of Thomas B. APPLEGATE and Joanna GIBBONS are: 1. Thomas APPLEGATE born 1679 married Ann PERRINE 2. John APPLEGATE born 1681 3. Daniel APPLEGATE born 1683 married Rebecca TILTON 4. Joseph APPLEGATE born 1685 5. Benjamin APPLEGATE born about 1686 married Elizabeth MORFORD 6. Elizabeth APPLEGATE born 1687 7. Richard APPLEGATE born 1692 married Rebecca WINTER Thomas B. was born about 1632, so we know that they were here in America by then. This information acquired from Bob Applegate; Paul Eldridge Smith; Richard L. Cosby; Jaimie Simcox; Mark D. Montgomery. How does this fit into your ancestry? Christy Stevens in CA

Ohio and Noblesville IN --county escapes at the moment, and John died there in a barn building accident at 83 years, and then Jacob and family, Mariah, Robert, Elias, and some more children, file not in front of me at the moment, but they all came to Sangamon Co. IL and then the area became Logan Co. Jacob and wife Ora died in 50s. Elias was in Civil War and Randolph was killed in it. Robert came back and married a French daughter (surname not country) and she died and he remarried. Mariah married a Thomas Hurst in Sangmon in August of 1841, They had Violet Elizabeth in 43 and Thomas in 45 and husband was dead and she married John Ater in Piatt Co. IL to become a Great Aunt of the Ater family and a Great Grandmother through Violet marrying Andrew Jackson Williams. Elias married a Elizabeth and they went to MO and on to Nebraska and had family that stayed there. I do have details but not handy at the desk. If anyone thinks they connect I will look them up. What I need is Jacob Applegates marriage to ORA in Ohio by the time schedule or it could have been in PA. Also was Elizabeth an elder daughter that married Alan Williams, brother to Andrew Jackson Williams in Piatt Co. She named a daughter Ora so we have never been able to get a handle there. Any help appreciated. Supposedly Elizabeth, sister to Jacob married a Coon in Piatt Co. as well. Kay Goeggle kgoeggle@bellsouth.net
