I am looking for the family of John Applegate, born circa 1817 in Ohio. Was living in Goshen Clermont County Ohio, so am assuming that he may have been born in Clermont County, Ohio. He married Anna Emery, born January 31, 1817 in Ohio, died September 12, 1891 in Milford, Clermont County, Ohio. John and Anna (Emery) Applegate had the following children: William B. Applegate 1846-1925, Andrew B. Applegate 1842-1926, John E. Applegate born circa 1849, Anna Applegate 1845-1924, Perrine Kossuth Applegate 1859-1936. I am seeking the parentage of John Applegate and his wife Anna Emery. Thank you. Edie Suttle, jsattle9@fuse.net
Edie, Brenda Stewart-Reeder here of Phillip Suttles/Minerva Posey family. My husband's Applegate family moved back and forth between Goshen, Clermont Co., Ohio, and Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY. His ancestor was Samuel P. Applegate son of Elijah Applegate and Jennie Pharis. Elijah was born in PA and married Jennie in KY and was in 1810 in Jefferson Co., KY, 1820 Goshen, 1821 until after 1826 in Jefferson Co., KY, 1830 Goshen and by 1840 back in KY. Goshen is where his Reeder family also lived and that is were Samuel's daughter met Jacob Reeder and he went after her to Jefferson Co. and married her and took her back to Goshen. Elijah has brothers Samuel, Hezekiah, Benjamin Franklin, Tunis and Elisha. Being the sons of Thomas & Mary Applegate, Thomas born in NJ died in Jefferson Co., KY. Thomas's two younger brothers went on to Indiana. The three of them were the sons of Thomas b NJ d PA. Quite a number of the Jefferson Co., KY Applegate's left and went to Indiana. I don't have a John that fits in your time frame but would have to be of the same family as my husband's. Edie Suttle, jsattle9@fuse.net I can't prove a connection but my Richard Applegate born ca 1815 circled all around your John Applegate. Based on the estimated birth date your John could theoretically be a brother of my Richard. Census records show Richard born in Kentucky but his son's death certificate says Richard was born in Jackson Furnace Ohio. Richard Applegate married Rebecca Spriggs (born ca 1830) in Scioto County Ohio in 1847. By 1850 they were in Greenup County KY. By the mid 1850s they were in Campbell County Ky. Sometime in the 1870s the family moved to Cincinnati, Hamilton County Ohio. One source I have seen has Richard as the son of James Applegate but I can find little proof. Thank you for this information, I would like to know more. Especially where I can obtain the documented proof of what you sent regarding this Applegate branch. I have three different lines of Applegate and do not know if they are even related, but they are all in the Clermont and Brown counties of Ohio. The Applegate branches are: John E. Applegate 1801 in NJ, died 1837 Amanda Ginoways Child: Joseph Martin Applegate, 02 FEB 1833 - 31 MAR 1904 (Brown County, Ohio Branch) John Applegate 1817 - ? born in OH Anna Emery 1817-1891 (Clermont County, Ohio Branch) Elijah Applegate born 1830 Elizabeth Ellen Hill, born 1836 Married Oct 24, 1867 Clermont County, Ohio Thanks again for all your help and suggestions at getting documentation and proof. Hi Brenda! Could you tell me which of Samuel's 3 daughters married Jacob Reeder. I do not have the Reeder line and would love to have it. My line is from Elijah's brother Benjamin Franklin. I don't have much on Samuel P.'s line either. Any info would be appreciated. will be glad to share my line. Thanks, Marilyn On Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at 08:57 PM, Brenda Reeder wrote: > Edie, Brenda Stewart-Reeder here of Phillip Suttles/Minerva Posey > family. > > My husband's Applegate family moved back and forth between Goshen, > Clermont > Co., Ohio, and Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY. > > His ancestor was Samuel P.
