The June 2004 Reeder Family Reunion I know that some of the pictures do not work, it's 4 am and I will debug it tomorrow. I'll also add in the picture names for the ones Gail and Darrell have identified. I have sent Reed Hopkins copies of the unidentified photos, hopefully I will hear from him soon. My next step is to find hotel, RV park, and reunion site locations and get those posted. http://home.comcast.net/~reederfamilyreunion/ Brenda

Deliah Applegate married John Combs on 25 December 1825 In Scott Co., IN. They lived in Dubois Co., In and were divorced there (or at least they filed papers for a divorce beginning August 1839 thru Aug 1845). According to the papers for divorce their children were, Lewis, Sterling, James "Wesley", Litle H., John Smith, Sarah M. J. and Louisa M. F. Delilah trail leads back to Scott Co., In, then to Pike Co., IL where a number of other Applegates went from Scott Co., IN. There she married twice more, to Parley Pease and to Nathan Allison. She died "19 March 1872 aged 64 years, 2 mos 19 days" buried in the Stark/Hutton Cemetery, Pike Co., IL. She is buried between the graves of her son Litle H. Combs and Samuel Applegate. IS she related to Samuel born Feb. 5, 1783, a sister or a daughter? I hit this brick wall about 20 + years ago and would like to get it resolved somehow. I appreciate any help. Thanks Joyce Kahre
Hi Ladell, my name is LaVelle and I have Applegate relatives. Do you have twins born in 1909 in Corwith, Iowa named Sylvia Jenny and Zelma Menina Applegate? -- La Velle NottNott@att.net
Hi. We do have twins in the family, but not familar with this information. Sorry, Ladell
I will send them to your private email since they cannot be attached to a rootsweb address, so atleast I have not figured out how to do it. I now have several of Harriett Ann Applegate Reeder b 1829 in Jefferson County, Kentucky. Any relatives out there? My name is Ladell APPLEGATE Wiggins. I did a long research on the APPLEGATE'S, I am very willing to share and have 5 4inch notebooks of records. I will try to answer any question I can. Love to share. Let me hear from you. applegaterme@aol.com Thanks, Ladell
In 1870 Judith is still there: Lexington Ward 2, Fayette Co. KY 1870 Census 557/674 Benjamin Carter 58 male black fireman born KY: Judith Applegate age 58 female white born KY listed her as insane.
I just checked the 1860 Lexington, Fayette Co. KY census for the asylum and she is still listed: 1103/1217 Wm. C. Chipley Physician: Judith Applegate age 39 female born US. Brenda
Judith Applegate is listed in the 1850 Census of Fayette Co. KY District 1 1196/1200 John R. Allen, Medical Supt. of Lunatic's Asly: Judith Applegate age 45 female born KY. Brenda
Some people believe that Samuel Applegate and his wife Judith Rogers were the parents of Harriett Ann Applegate and some believe that she was the daughter of Elijah Applegate and his second wife Elizabeth BENCE LEATHERMAN (widow of Michael Leatherman). She was born in 1829 in Jefferson Co. KY near Louisville. If she is the daughter of Samuel that would make Elijah her grandfather. Elizabeth Bence Applegate is on the 1850 Jefferson Co. KY Census with a John Reader living with her and her daughter Elizabeth Leatherman. Elijah is on the 1810 Jefferson Co. KY Census. He is then on the 1820 Goshen, Clermont Co. OH census. And, in 1830 still in Goshen, Clermont Co. OH census with 1 female 0-5 which Harriett b. 1829 falls into. On the 1840 census he has moved to Jefferson Co. KY and has 1 female 10-15 which still fits Harriett's age. Elijah died in 1848 in Jefferson Co. KY. In Clermont Co. Elijah lives next door to the Reeder's on one census and on the other a couple of houses away so Harriett and Jacob would have known each other from Clermont Co. and that is why he went off to Louisville to marry Harriett. When Harriett marries Jacob, she is the ward of George L. Gailbreath. If her father is Elijah and him being dead she would have a ward, but Samuel is still alive at the time of her marriage. Found George L. Gailbreath was married to Cynthia Rogers d/o Edward and Elizabeth Rogers. Cynitha had two sisters who married Applegates (*note Harriett's second child is named Addie Cynitha): 1. Judith Rogers b c 1805 Bullitt Co. KY md Samuel P. Applegate 24 Jul 1826 in Bullitt Co. KY. 2. Malinda Rogers b c 1806 Bullitt Co. KY md Elijah M. Applegate 23 Oct 1827 in Bullitt Co. KY. Judith has mental problems and goes to a home and I believe dies and Samuel disappears. Harriett has 10 kids and does not name any of them: Elijah, Samuel, Judith, or Elizabeth or any variation thereof. Children of Harriett Ann Applegate and Jacob William Reeder: Hilda; Addie Cynthia, Thomas Taylor, Jesse, Hudson Guy, Soctt Winfield, Sherman Demitt, Sallie Louella, Blanche A., and George G. Does anyone have proof of her parents? Thanks Brenda Stewart Reeder

I have just spent several days with my husband's relatives and scanned in the following pictures (just a few of the hundred or so I got.) All too numerous to list: Thomas Taylor Reeder family Sherman Demit Reeder Family Jacob Reeder and wife Harriet Ann Applegate Coldiron's VanHorn's Reeder's A picture of a 125 year old quilt made by Nancy Alice Barnes Coldiron for her husband John G. Coldiron in 1878 when she was but 21 years old being held by two of their 2nd great grandchildren. Lyle Sherman Reeder sat in her lap while it was being made.
I am new to the list and am looking for proof of the parents of Harriett Ann Applegate. She was born 25 Jan 1829 near Louisville, Jefferson Co. KY and married Jacob W. Reeder 2 Nov 1848 in Jefferson Co. KY. Then married Isaac Farrier 14 Oct 1891 in Rooks Co. KS. I believe that her parents are Elijah Applegate born abt 1778 PA and died 1848 in Jefferson Co. KY and Elizabeth Bence. He first married Jennie Pharis 19 Apr 1892 in Jefferson Co. KY and then Elizabeth Leatherman widow of Michael Leatherman on 19 Mar 1826 in Jefferson Co. KY. In going back in researching for a marriage of Michael Leatherman he married Elizabeth Bence 8 Apr 1814 in Jefferson Co. KY. I would appreciate any help in knowing sibling or parents of any of the mentioned people. Brenda Stewart-Reeder
Daryl, Have you tried the 1880 census Marion Co, Iowa ? Ancestry.com images - 1880 to Iowa - to Marion - to "other" - to Dist 124 - to p. 49 Applegate, Richard WM 60 farmer Ky-Ky-Ky " , Rebecca WF 55 wife Oh-MD, NJ " , Eliza J. WF 23 dau Ind-Ky-Oh Phillips , Rebecca WF 67 [ ? ] in law NJ NJ NJ " , Isaac WM 65 [?brother] in law OH- MD - NJ Despite Eliza J's birthplace as Ind, this is a fairly close match for 1870 Campbell Co census where Richard age 56 KY, Rebecca 40 OH and 1 of their children Elizabeth age 14. Only unexplained is brother in law Isaac Phillips -with same birthplaces as for Rebecca Applegate - this would suggest they are siblings. Will take much more research to see if this is the correct Richard/Rebecca. I too am interested in this Applegate family. For a long time I have been tracking the Applegates of Greenup (KY) and Scioto (OH). As you say "theory" is that Richard was son of James Applegate and Charity Norman. AND someone years ago "theorized" that James was the son of My Jacob Applegate. And all this information got on that website "Applegates in America" Once there, those theories magically turned into fact for many novice researchers. Willing to share what records I have found to date- BUT no proof of ancestry. Barbara Applegate Richards "Daryl L. Looking for any information regarding the Jacob Applegate family. He was born ca 1827 in Missouri. About 1855 he married Elizabeth H. unknown, who was born in Kentucky. They apparently lived in Kentucky , possibly Louisville, from about 1856 through 1866 as all their children were born there. The children are: Melissa, b. ca 1856 Annie, b ca 1859 Henry C., b ca 1860 Catherine, b June 23, 1863 in Louisville and Mary, b ca 1866. By 1870 the family had returned to Missouri and were living in Unionville, Putnam County. Jacob and his wife and the last child were still there in 1880. Catherine Applegate, my g-grandmother was married by then and also living in Unionville with her husband Henry Franklin Hughes. I believe the other 3 children were also still in the area. Any info would be appreciated.
