    1. [APPLEGATE] Obituary of Harriett A. Applegate Reeder Farrier
    2. Brenda Reeder
    3. Received this today from cousin Gail McComb: Rooks County Record (Kansas) March 31, 1911: Obituary: Mrs. Isaac Farier died on Thursday of last week, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. C. Fealeay. The funeral was held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon, the sermon being delivered by Rev. Lloyd, of Osborne. The pallbearers were Ray and Jay Feleay, Ray and Ralph Reeder, Guy and George Reeder, all grandsons of the deceased. The following account of her life was read from the pulpit. Harriett A. Applegate was born in Jefferson Co., Ky., near Louisville, January 25, 1829 and died March 23d 1911, aged 82 years and 2 months. At the age of 18 years she was converted and united with the Methodists church and one year later was united in marriage with J. W. Reeder. To this union 12 children were born, only six surviving their infancy. The youngest of the remaining sons, Sherman D. Reeder, was deceased June 1898, aged 35 yrs. Thirty-eight years ago she became a member of the Christian church and lived a devoted, faithful Christian until her death. She was widowed in 1! 874 and remained a widow and devoted mother to her family for 18 yrs. until they all left for homes of their own. She came to Rooks Co. in 1878, taking a homestead on Elm Creek. In October, 1891 she married to Isaac Farrier, of Plainville, Kan. where she lived for 19 yrs. The last five years she has been a great sufferer from a complication of ailments, but always patient and thining most of the comfort and happiness of those around her. As the end drew near her earnest prayer was that she might depart and be at rest, imploring her children not to grieve for her for it would be the happiest event of her life for there she would be with her Savior and the family and friends gone before. She leaves 3 sons and 2 daughters, Thomas T. Reeder, of Ashland, Oregon, S. W. Reeder, H. G. Reeder and Mrs. S. L. Schindler, of Elm Creek, and Mrs. A. C. Feleay, of Stockton. A little over a year ago, having become almost helpless from her infirmities she came to Stockton to make her ho! me with her daughter, Mrs. Feleay and became a member of this congregation.

    1. [APPLEGATE] John & Sarah, N. Jersey
    2. I'm looking for information on John R. Applegate and his wife Sarah (maiden name Groves), who lived in the South Brunswick township in New Jersey in the 1700s and 1800s. I believe that John was born about 1766 and died in about 1840. Sarah may have been born in 1805 and died in about 1851. I think that she was John's second wife, the first being Catherine Wagner. Both wives had numerous children. Neither of these individuals is in the direct line I'm researching; Sarah would have been the daughter of one of my husband's earliest known ancestors, but it was he descends through a brother rather than through her. Therefore, I haven't researched them closely and don't know much about them. If I'm correct, Sarah's parents were John Groves and Ann Runyon; I don't have info on John's parents at the present, although I'm sure it's been documented somewhere. Some records refer to Sarah as "Sally," which I know is a common nickname. Some records also spell her maiden name Grove, without the S. To me, these inconsistencies are par for the course for that time period. However, a relative of mine is highly skeptical and seems to think there were two John Applegates, one married to Sarah and the other to Sally, both living in this small community at the same time. I suppose it's possible, since census records from the area show a lot of duplication of names. However, I also think he is making too much about the presence or absence of a single letter, given both the literacy level of the time and how easy it is for later researchers to misread or mistype names from old, handwritten records. If anyone is familiar with John and Sarah, could you please weigh in on their history and the spelling issue? Thanks, Nancy Groves Atlanta

    1. [APPLEGATE] Elijah Applegate, Jennie Phariss and Harriett Ann Applegate wife of Jacob William Reeder
    2. Brenda Reeder
    3. I was at the Family History Library in SLC on Satudray researching Harriett Ann Applegate. I believe that she is possbily the daughter of Elijah Applegate and 2nd wife Elizabeth Bence widow of Michael Leatherman. Other family members believe that she is the daughter of Samuel Applegate and Judith Rogers. Samuel is Eliajh's son from his first wife Jennie Pharris. Someone has listed on Ancestry.com children of Elizabeth by Elijah as the children of Jennie Phariss. These children were clearly born after Elizabeth and Elijah were married. She is also living with one of them on the 1860 census and next door to one on the 1870 census. Does anyone know who the parents of Harriett Ann Applegate are. I have sent for the newspaper microfilm on interlibrary loan from Stockton, Rooks Co. Kansas where Harriett died in 1911-1912 in hopes that her parents or siblings are listed in her obituary. Harriett was born in 1829 outside of Louisville, Jefferson Co. KY. She married Jacob William Reeder in 1848 in Jefferson Co. KY and then moved to Clermont Co. Ohio and then onto Cedar County and Scott Co. Iowa and then onto Warren Co. MO where 2 of her children and her husband died and are buried. She and the rest of her 8 to 7 children move to Rooks Co. Kansas in two wagons where they all homesteaded. Brenda Reeder

    3. Mar 8, 04: Nancy in Montana writing this! My GGGGgrandfather was Richard Applegate b. 1721 m. abt 1757 of, possibly Albany, NY and d. Dec 1800. His father was Benjamin Applegate b. abt 1865 and d. 1753. and mother was either Rebecca Wall or Elizabeth Morford! Richard's wife = Catherine or Kate Wiggen b. abt 1725 of, possibly Albany, NY and d. abt 1757, I don' t know now! Children: 1. May Applegate b. abt 1758 of ? Albany, NY 2. Rebecca Applegate b. abt 1761 same place ? 3. Benjamin Applegate b. abt 1763 same place ? 4. William Applegate b. 1765 of same place ? 5. Unk child 6. Alleta Applegate b. 1770 of same place? 7. Catherine Applegate b. abt 1772 same place (Note: Catherine is Nancy's connect) She married John Hammond in Monmouth County, NJ, at least they owned and operated a farm there until his death 1894! 8. Elizabeth Applegate b. abt 1774 of Albany, NY. 9. Miss Applegate b. abt 1776 of, Albany, NY. 10. Mary Applegate b. abt 1778 same place ? Possibly after the Revolution, the family either moved up or down the Hudson River! Maybe moved up to Albany prior to Rev. and back to Monmouth County or coast after! I will confess, I have not to date completed a lot of info on my GGGrandmas people, Deborah Hammond who married James A Wilson from Scotland. I am going to NJ next week and hope to find more info on the Applegates! There are literally hundreds of families of them for 200 years in Monmouth County! Bye for now! 2. Brenda Reeder
    3. My husband's 2nd great grandmother was Harriet Ann Applegate born 25 Jan 1829 near Louisville, Jefferson Co. Ky. Possibly her parents are Elijah Applegate and Elizabeth Bence. Some say her father is Samuel Applegate and his wife Judith Rogers which would make her Elijah's grand daughter. Elijah moved back and forth between Clermont Co. Ohio and Jefferson Co. Ky. She married Jacob William Reeder 2 Nov 1848 in Jefferson Co. KY. Elijah lived either next door to and a few houses away from Jacob's parents on several censuses. So Jacob knew her in Clermont Co. and he followed her to Louisville and married her there and took her back to Clermont Co. Ohio to live. ----- Original Message ----- From: Grvstone@aol.com To: kyseeker@attbi.com Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2004 9:34 AM Subject: Applegate family, Clermont Co., OH i am a applegate my father came from brown cpunty would like to see if there is a connection

    2. I can't help you there, I'm just trying to prove whether Samuel Applegate and Judith Rogers or Elijah Applegate and Elizabeth Bence are Harriett Ann Applegate's parents. I just know Judith Rogers Applegate was in the asylum and her husband Samuel disappeared. Harriett was the ward of George Gailbraith when she married Jacob Reeder in 1848. But in the 1850 census Elizabeth Applegate has a John Reeder living with her. Can someone help either one of us out? 1. [APPLEGATE] Reunion News- Reeder/Coldiron/Applegate/Barnes/Hall/Sears/Polley and related families
    2. I have reserved the lower shelter house in the Stockton City Park for the following days and sent the check to hold our reservation (refundable after being check by the local police to make sure we have not damaged it): 6/17 4 pm until closing for a potluck and visiting. 6/18 4 pm until closing for a potluck and visiting. 6/19 All day BBQ, sharing, etc. (we will bring our big grill and if anyone else is bringing a truck would you bring your grill and let me know so we have enough to cook on.) They have a special 3 day event "Speaking Stones Tour" that takes place in the Old Stockton Cemetery in April unfortunately we won't be there for that. They dress as the pioneer people now buried in the old cemetery and tell about their lives. They are going to do a short version of this for us because we are not interested in everyone buried there. I will let everyone know what time and day as they will not provide transportation for us out to the cemetery as they do during the April event. Info to be on the flyer. The muesum will be opened for a tour setup especially for us only. It is normally closed on the days we will be there. I will pick a day and time and make the arrangements with the curator of the museum. Info to be on the flyer. The courthouse is open 5 days a week, but I was told that the records are not in good arrangment. They are stacked and scattered. This is the dates of their records. birth 1888 - 1901 marriage 1873 - death 1888 - 1901 land 1872 - probate 1872 - citizenship 1873 I will make a list of the records we need and we can storm the courthouse for a few hours and be on our way or I just might do this myself on Wednesday. The Elm Creek Road is a gravel road but very well maintained so we will be able to get out to all the old homesteads which I have a plat map of. There are only 5 spots in the RV park. Four of them can be doubled up on if air conditioners are not run all day and cause problems, those have electric and water. The 5th one has water only?? Senior Moment! It was one or the other. There is a dump station. We have a 30 gallon dump tote we will bring with us for everyone to use so sewer/gray water dumping is not a problem. I have reserved us a site for the 15th as that is when Bill and I will be arriving from MO. We have all the sites from the 16th on through the 19th. I need to know who will be using the rest of the sites and what nights you need them, just in case anyone else will be arriving on the 15th, I need to call and arrange that or call and release the ones we will not be using. Motels (I was told that the motels are all in about the same condition, please make your own arrangements and do so early): Americana Motel & Outdoorsmen Lodge located at 521 N. First in Stockton. The house is fully furnished, CH/CA, and has plenty of parking. Prices are $35/day for up to two people, each additional person $10/day. Call 785-635-0175, or 785-425-6351, or 785-425-7128. Please note, this is NOT a Bed and Breakfast Restaurants: Country Inn, South U.S. 183, Stockton (785) 425-6777 Gambino's Pizza, 425 Main, Stockton (785) 425-7199 Home Cookin', 1203 Main, Stockton (785) 425-6494 183 Lanes Restaurant, 906 S. I know I'm forgetting items - big Senior Moment trying to work and do this at the same time. I will have the flyer ready on friday and get the Reeder Family Reunion Website updated by then also. http://home.comcast.net/~reederfamilyreunion/ Brenda
