    2. And, I'm looking for Elizabeth Applegate (Appleget) ancestry, who married Cornelius Sutton in New Jersey abt. 1768-75. Also trying to find her death and burial place. Cornelius Sutton moved to West Virginia in the 1790's but no record of Elizabeth following him. I've had no luck searching genweb lists for New Jersey, even in the archives. Any info would be more than appreciated...I'd be forever indebted Timothy Sutton "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

    2. Okay, Dan. Since it is the Holidays, I'll blab. According to astonomers and other learned people, we should more properly celebrate Christmas in April. That would be fine with me. It would give me something to look forward to during the long Minnesota winter. As it is, no one gets real shook up over Valentine day and Presidents' day causes no excitement whatsoever. There is brief excitement over Easter, but for the most part winter is dullsville. Since we cannot change the system, lets jump into the season with much gusto and both feet, yell "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year" at full volume, and hope we live until Memorial Day. Have a cool yule from one of the illiterate twigs on the tree. Tony Appelget PS Dan: I don't find you in the genealogy. When and where did you marry in? 1. RHOADS or RHODES - APPLEGATE Family Photograph
    2. Shelley & Tomas Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph which is identified as both Mable APPLEGATE and Mable RHODES JONES. The photograph was taken at the Muritz & Pack Studio in Zanesville, Ohio. I would guess that the photograph was taken sometime in the 1890's with Mable likely in her 20's or 30's at the time. The two names don't appear to have been made by the same person, so I'm thinking that one may be a married name and the other her maiden name or it is possible that she was married more than once. Based on limited research I believe this may be a photograph of Mabel or Mable A. RHODES or RHOADS, daughter of Martha J. RHOADS who was recorded in the 1880 census living in Springfield, OH. Martha J. RHOADS was age 35, divorced, a Housekeeper, born in OH to OH born parents. She was living with three children and what appears to be her x-Mother-in-Law; Elizabeth RHOADS age 65 born in Virginia to VA born parents. The children were, Ethell age 15, Mable age 12, and Robert T. E. age 9, all three born in OH to parents born in OH. I find record of Mabel A. RHODES being married to Daniel C. APPLEGATE on the 24th of March 1890 in Muskingum Co., Ohio. I'm hoping to locate someone from Mable's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. This is Elijah's will naming children: dec'd son Samuel P. Applegate (married Judith Rogers) my daughter Cynthia Ann Reeder (she was previously married to Joab Boggs, then to Samuel Parker Reeder) my daughter Elizabeth Jane Cunningham (married Robert P. Cunningham) my sons Thomas Jefferson Applegate and Oliver Franklin Applegate (Thomas married Eliza E.) (Oliver married Elizabeth Briscoe) my three children towit Julia Ann Tucker, Thomas Jefferson Applegate and Oliver Franklin Applegate. (Julia was married to James M. Tucker) Samuel died before 25th Feb 1847 when Elijah wrote his will, so Samuel cannot be the father to Julia Ann who you said was born in 1849. Elijah married Jennie Phariss 19 Apr 1802 in Jefferson Co. KY and then to Mrs. Elizabeth Benze Leatherman 19 Mar 1826 in Jefferson Co. KY. His will was proven 7 Feb 1848 in Jefferson Co. KY. Harriett Ann Applegate was the ward of George L. Gailbreath at the time of her marriage to Jacob Wm. Reeder 2 Nov 1848 in Jefferson Co. KY. John W. Applegate was also a ward of George and is listed on the census records with George's family until the time be marries around 1862. George Applegate was married to Cynthia Rogers daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Hathaway Rogers. Cynthia has two sisters who married Applegates' Judith Rogers married Samuel P. Applegate 25 Jul 1826 in Bullitt Co. KY and Malinda Rogers married Elijah M. Applegate 23 Oct 1827 in Bullitt Co. KY. Judith is in the lunatic's asylum on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses. I believe that Harriett Ann Applegate and John W. Applegate are both children of Samuel P. Applegate and his wife Judith Rogers. 1. Elijah Applegate & son Samuel P. Applegate
    2. I was at the FHL and decided to compare the summary extract of Elijah's will from 1847 Jefferson Co. KY to the recorded one from Feb 1848. The extract stated ...to the children of my son Samuel P. Applegate. The recorded will states ..to the children of my dec'd son Samuel P. Applegate. BIG DIFFERENCE. Now I can quit hunting for Samuel P. because he is dead. His wife Judith Rogers Applegate is in the Eastern Kentucky Lunitic's Aslyum from 1850 to 1870 according to the censuses. We believe that Harriett Ann Applegate who married Jacob Wm. Reeder in 1848 was the daughter of Samuel P. & Judith. We also believe that the John W. Applegate who is enumerated on the census records with the Gailbreath family is also their son. The Gailbreath man that John is living with is the same one who signed for Harriett to marry Jacob Reeder. Does anyone know how many children Samuel P. and Judith Rogers Applegate had? When did Samuel P. died? Judith died after the 1870 census, does! anyone know when? Does anyone know if Harriett Ann and John W. are Samuel & Judith's children. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. Are there guardian bonds for Jefferson Co. KY? Thank you - Brenda Reeder

    3. Hi Brenda, Do you know the county where Samuel P. Applegate would have lived and died? Ideally there should be a will or estate records. There could also possibly be a county record committing Judith Rogers Applegate to the aslyum. Have you looked to see if any records still exist from the aslyum? You are correct that there should also be guardianship bonds for any minor children. Kentucky tax lists might also give you an idea of when Samuel died. If all this happened around Louisville there could possibly be newspaper records. Daryl Polley in Northern Kentucky near Cincinnati and looking for descendents of Richard Applegate (ca 1815 - April 5, 1891) and Rebecca Spriggs Applegate (ca 1830 - December 10, 1888). 3. Nice to hear from you. I haven't been active with my genealogy research lately. I've been busy dodging hurricanes and much as I can. Happy to report nothing big since Ivan and then Dennis. I got to the point in my research that I couldn't prove a daughter to parents relationship. So much fits, but I've seen those, "Oh, this has got to be the one"..... fall though, so I am hesitant until I get precise info to confirm it. It all hinges on whether a "Mary L. " might have been listed on the censes as a "Martha"???? This person also died about 1918 or before by a few years and I can't find a death certificate or a death notice for her. Of course, that was the time of the great influenza. But my mom remembered watching the funeral from across the street. So,???????? Anyone have any ideas????????
