    3. Can you accept GIF images of the record via direct e-mail? I can send you 5 pages totaling about 600K and that should not cause a problem for most e-mail programs these days. I think I have most of the record but I notice page 5 stops in mid sentence. It is interesting reading but offers no clue to James' ancestory. 3. Daryl, I also have a real problem with James Applegate b. ca 1770 as a son of Jacob Applegate. This relationship seems to stem from one FGR on that now defunct Applegate site. In that record, Jacob Applegate was listed with TWO sons James, 1)James b. 1770 2) James b. abt 1797 Berkeley Va (with whom Mary {Prudence} was living in 1850 MO.) I note that you cite from that Applegate site about James (b. 1770) military record in 1791. AND you have added to that "Somewhere I have a copy of his pension application" I would be very interested in that record. Over the years, I have TWICE sent requests to National Archives - each time returned as no record found. 3. Hi Helen, Don't ask me to "prove" this because I can't but based on the known facts, location and an Applegate web site that has now disappeared your Andrew Applegate appears to be the older bother of my Richard Applegate. I must admit that most of this came from the lost Applegate website and has NOT BEEN VERIFIED by me but supposedly our direct line runs: 1. Thomas Applegate Sr. (ca 1600 - ca 1662) and Elizabeth Wall (no dates recorded) who married ca 1619 in England. 2. Bartholomew Applegate (ca 1620- ca 1690) and Hannah Patrick (no dates recorded) who married October 1650. 3. Daniel Applegate (ca 1653 in Monmouth Co, NJ - ca 1710 Shrewsbury NJ) and Rebeckah Tilton (ca 1667 - ??) married 1686. 4. Bartholomew Applegate (ca 1688 in Middletown NJ - ca 1749) and Mary (a Leni Lenape Indian) 5. Daniel Applegate (ca 1726 - ??) and Elizabeth Hulett who married January 31, 1744/45 (old calendar). 6. Jacob Henry Applegate (ca 1746 - ca 1819 in Mason Co, Ky) and Mary Prudence Wallingford (ca 1756 in VA - ca 1850 to 1860 in Grundy Co., MO) 7. James Applegate (ca 1770 - Ca 1835 Greenup Co., KY) who married Charity Norman February 20, 1792 in Berkley Co,. VA. I note that James apparently would have been born when his mother was about 14. Certainly not impossible but a reason to possibly take a second look at that connection. James was a soldier in the Indian War of 1791, serving as a sergeant in Capt. Joseph Brock's Co., Col. William Darke's Regiment under Gen. Anthony St. Clair. On Nov. 4, 1791, he was wounded in the battle which is called St. Clair's Defeat, being hit by a ball in the thigh which could not be removed. After the war, in 1796, they moved to Penn. and then to Ohio, finally settling in the edge of Greenup Co., Ky., near Flemingsburg, Ky. where he remained the rest of his life. He received a pension of $6/month under the Act of Feb. 4, 1822. Somewhere I have a copy of his pension application. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ky/state/military/kypen.txt JAMES APPLEGATE GREENUP COUNTY SERGEANT 1ST REGIMENT U. S. LEVIES $72.00 ANNUAL ALLOWANCE $431.29 AMOUNT RECEIVED NOVEMBER 11, 1826 PENSION STARTED TRANSFERRED FROM VIRGINIA SEPTEMBER 4, 1827 James and Charity probably had more children but my notes only show: Andrew born ca 1796 and Married Sarah Brand Jacob born ca 1810 and married ??? Richard born ca 1815 and married Rebecca Spriggs born ca 1830 on April 01, 1847 in Scioto County, OH. As you noted, there are other Applegate marriage records in Scioto County, OH including: Applegate, Andrew Bond, Sally Sep 20, 1827 Applegate, Joseph Spriggs, Sarah Aug 1, 1844 (I am convinced Joseph is probably another brother and Sarah Spriggs is probably Rebecca Spriggs' Cousin. I would need to look up some of my old files again but there is some evidence that James Applegate lived in Jackson County, Ohio around the period of 1810 and Richard was born there. As previously mentioned, Richard married in Scioto Ohio in 1847 but apparently his children born between 1848 and 1853 were born in Greenup Coounty. By the time my direct ancestor Margaret was born in 1857 he was living in Campbell County Kentucky. Sometime in the late 1870s Richard and Rebecca moved to Cincinnati Ohio. Rebecca Spriggs Applegate died December 10, 1888. Richard Applegate died April 5, 1891. Both are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate, Campbell County, Ky. I hope that is some help and I hope to hear more from you. Daryl On 3/30/06, Helen Strahorn <jnhs@earthlink.net> wrote: > > Adding my Applegate to list. Wondering if anyone ties into this > family. 1. RECENT (LAST 200 YEARS) APPLEGATE IMMIGRANTS
    2. Hi all A month or three ago there was a list of Applegate immigrants posted. What made this posting unique was that it listed Applegates who were not descended from First Tom the Terrible. They were subsequent emmigrants and some of them were of non-English origin. Alas, I lost that list along with a whole bunch of other stuff. Would the sender please send me a replacement copy. Thanks in advance. Have fun Tony In God we trust
