He was born Nov. 20, 1936, in Palma, N.M., the son of Dionicio and Agueda Tapia Apodaca. He married Carolyn Huse on March 21, 1961, in Bennington, Vt. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Scott (Shirley) Apodaca of Galesburg and Paul (Shelly) Apodaca of Brimfield, Ill.; three daughters, Yvonne (Dave) Walker of Galesburg, Brenda (Dave) Weinberg of Gilson, Ill., and Donna (Juan) Cruz of Galesburg; a brother, Joe Apodaca of Deming, N.M.; four sisters, Rose Pacheco of San Jon, N.M., Florence (Fabian) Martinez of Hereford, Texas, Mary (Herman) Baca of Tucumcari, N.M., and Tina Romero of Los Angeles, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a special companion, Lily. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1966. Larry was employed by International Harvester in Canton for 11 years. He was a self-employed antique dealer for more than 30 years, owning and operating Rail City Antiques. He graduated from Maxwell High School in New Mexico in 1954. He lived in the Maquon area for 17 years before moving to Galesburg in 1985. Larry was greatly loved by his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was thought of as the greatest Papa in the whole world. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Rev. William Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery, with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Honors Flight, c/o the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
