I am moving house shortly and therefore sorting through everything, including photos and found one of my grandmother Angela last night. On the back someone has written that her father was Augustin Apodaca & her mother Amada Benavidez Orozco. It also states that she was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico on March 7th 1906, so I would say that we share the same grandmother! My father was Rudy Martinez, the eldest of 5 sons who was brought up in Watsonville, California. He came to Britain during the Second World War, where he met my mother, returning during 1948 to marry her and sadly, never went back to the USA. I see that this was posted almost 12 years ago, so I'm sorry that you've waited so long for my reply but I hope I'll hear back from you as I don't have that much info on my parent's history and would love to be in contact Best regards Karen Lewis Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Your grandfather was actually Juan, III (Juan Jr. died as a child-Sept. 1, 1888). Your grandfather, the 3rd- was born Nov. 13, 1891 & died 1910. Your grandfather & my grandfather were brothers. My grandfather was Ramon Apodaca (b. 1881-1962).You stated that your grandfather died abt. 1983 & I have 1910...so not sure on that. I have a copy of our great-grandfather's last "Will" and there is a great deal of information in that document. I also have a copy of the log where our great-grandfather, Juan, Sr. noted the births & god-parents for each of his children. There were nine children (1 died as a child). I have a great deal of information & am willing to get in touch with you to share these documents. Any suggestions? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Here we go: My grandfather, Juan Jr. was born in 1892. Although my evidence is only fragmentary, I believe he married/had children with Hortense Equrrola (no other info on her). They had two daughters, Sylvia (about 1923) and Consuela (1925). Apparently, there was also a son (name unknown) who disappeared abruptly as a child. They lived in Montebello, CA. Sylvia married Andrew Padilla and they produced Andrew Jr (about 1948) and Elizabeth (about 1951). Consuela Married William Moore and produced William (about 1950) and twins Patrick and Michael (about 1954 - both now dead). For awhile in the 1950's, they all live in El Monte, CA. OK, Mary, that's the broad overview. I have lots of family lore and other bits and pieces to share. For example, Juan Jr. was an exceedingly large man for both the time and ethnic group. He was 6'2" to 6'3" and about 220, mostly in chest and shoulders. He was also a street brawler. My first experience with a switchblade and brass knuckles were with his. At the end, when informed he had an inoperable brain tumor (about 1983) he went home, said some goodbyes, went to garage, and used his favorite gun to end his life. He is buried at Rose Hills in Whittier, CA. Hope this helps. Also hope you have some pieces to share like who was Leonicia Apodaca from October 20, 1859 and why does the name "Mary" keep popping up in the Apodaca line? Everytime I asked my mother that question, I received a "don't want to talk about it" reply. Bye. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
