I never see AOL ads - I use Mozilla Thunderbird for all my AOL mail and Mozilla Firefox for browsing. The only time I need to use AOL software is if I wanted to change passwords or to block senders - I haven't investigated whether it is possible to do things like that through the aol.com site. Listers without their own non-AOL anti-viral, anti-spyware and anti-adware software should not change away from AOL software though.
