I had assumed it was placed there by AOL at a recent time when you upgraded--but, it not it might not be what you are looking for. If the stored mail you are looking for was in the default incoming saved mail folder and you deleted the mail from your inbox--don't forget that AOL assumes you also want it deleted from your stored saved mail files.
