TCP/IP is the standard communications protocol for the internet. Short for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, the suite of communications protocols used to connect hosts on the Internet. TCP/IP uses several protocols, the two main ones being TCP and IP. TCP/IP is built into the UNIX operating system and is used by the Internet, making it the de facto standard for transmitting data over networks. Even network operating systems that have their own protocols, such as Netware, also support TCP/IP. This probably just means the connection didn't work on the first pass... It happens with dialup. Since I have a broadband I never have a problem with failed connections. -----Original Message----- From: Frty9rgal@aol.com [mailto:Frty9rgal@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2006 8:57 AM To: AOLers-RootsWeb-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [AOL-RW] tcp/ip Every once in a while when I log onto AOL, after going through to step 7, verify password, it goes back to step 2 & says "connecting TCP/IP". Then the connection stops. I have to click on cancel which puts me back to the log on screen & then it zips through quickly & I get online. Can someone explain this to me? I'm using dial-up & 9.0 Security Edition SE. Thanks, Judy
