I would suggest Roots Magic as an easy to learn and use program. Available at their website for "less than $30". I had used Family Origins since the mid 1990's, but Broderbund acquired the rights, then stopped supporting it. Transferring data is relatively easy, if you use a gedcom file. As corresponding secretary and editor for the local genealogy society, I have imported gedcoms from people all over the country. Never had a problem with them attached to email, or whatever the parent program was.
