Try gmail (Google Mail). It holds "tons" of old mail (for forever), you can set filters to auto-sort mail as it arrives (handy for Lists), it handles images/attachments much easier than AOL, it auto-grabs spam with almost 100% efficiency (and deletes it after 30 days--never need to touch it), it has chat capbility (that get saved to email--esp if you don't see it when someone sends)--- and, it's free.
