I run a computer business - and it turned out to be, on Windows XP, that you HAVE to DISABLE your virus software, then install SP3, then ENABLE your virus software, reboot and everything should work fine. Or, if you are getting ready to install a new version of your virus software, uninstall the old version (of your virus software), then install SP3, then install your new version of your virus software. It never hurts to have as much RAM as your computer allows, or at least have a fast connection (as opposed to the old modems), before installing something as large as SP3, Internet Explorer 8.0 is still having problems, with XP and Vista. It was made to work with the new Windows 7, but the updates for XP & Vista are causing problems. We had the same problem when IE 7.0 came out - we waited a long while before finally installing it. Microsoft puts these updates out there, but since there are no 2 computers the same, most of the problems just have to be worked out, after everybody installs it on their computer. I prefer to wait it out. Good Luck! Jan Scott In a message dated 1/1/2010 8:56:41 A.M. If I am recalling correctly, the problem with XP SP 3 only involved certain computers -- it had to do with how the operating system was originally loaded on them. I haven't done it as I also had heard that it had problems, same with service pack 3 which I have not downloaded yet. Does that still have problems? I do use Firefox some of the time because AOL is soooo slow. I do need more Ram so that is probably my problem with the speed as even Firefox takes a long time to come up but once up it is fine. I can't seem to get used to using the web based AOL, don't like it as well. I also have AOL 9.0 SE with windows XP on an E machine(4 yrs old). Nancy
Jan, Thanks so much for your reply. Think I will also wait to install SP3.
