Joan, I just rechecked my "sent" folder and found 24 emails I did not send all with the subject line "Client TOS Notification"...very worrisome, to say the least. Happy New Year, Jon
Jon- Your original message is archived HERE: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/AOLers-RootsWeb/2010-01/126236 5721 My guess as to why most of us (on AOL) didn't receive it is that I bet AOL blocked it as spam because of the content you were copying in the message. I'd worry that my AOL account had been compromised if I found something like that that I didn't send in my sent mail folder. I think you should notify AOL about it. Listers.... I've just found three mysterious emails in my sent folder, all apparently sent to "notifyabuse@abuse.aol.com and each has the same subject line: "Client TOS Notification". It suggests that I upgrade to MSIE 8, switch to Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome. I've never used anything but MSIE and am unfamiliar with the other suggestions Facebook gives me. I'm using AOL 9.0 SE, Windows XP on an HP notebook pc and dont want MSIE 8 to screw anything up or crash the notebook. Is anyone still having problems with MSIE 8 or is it safe to assume that if I upgrade, all will be ok? Also too, I read something about service pack 2 and 3 and that possibly 3 needs to be installed/downloaded before upgrading to MSIE 8. I'm clueless on what to do. Any ideas or suggestions???? Thanks in advance! Julee- I got that message once when using the AOL IE 7 browser on Facebook and just clicked to close it and haven't seen it since. BUT...I don't find that Facebook and its apps run well with IE. I mostly use Firefox for those sites--plus it is a more secure browser. It's free--so you can download it and use it regardless of whether you use AOL's IE browser elsewhere. My guess it is just another way for AOL to earn advertising revenue. It's annoying, so I will be sure not to use Map-Quest! Barbara > > I'm having the same problem and I use AVG. I'm having the same problem and I use AVG. I just ignore it and open the attachment since I know it to be a valid attachment. Is there any way to stop these if we have AVG?? Yes...but I didn't think it necessarily meant there was a virus or something wrong with the file...just a warning that the type of file you were about to download couldn't be scanned. I got the warning mainly with PDF files which are graphics and can't be scanned. Doesn't mean the file has a virus....just to be sure you trust the source. It's a long story, but I had to upgrade to a new Norton because of having to use a restore point, and not all kinds odd things have been going on. I haven't received the message again. Sandy Colorado Dee, Funny you should ask which Norton we're using. There are two people using this computer and somehow things got screwed up and each person bought Norton protection. Long story. Anyhow my screenname has Norton Internet Security and the other screenname has Norton 360. We're slowly but surely getting it straigthened out but discontinuing the automatic renewal for the Norton 360 is becoming a problem. By the answers I'm getting about the pop-up message I'm not sure it matters what anti-virus is being utilized or whether or not McAfee is being used. Hopefully it'll eventually stop appearing. Thanks for your interest. Sandy
The same thing is happening to us. We have Trend Micro anti-virus and I think the McAffee is still running too. In a message dated 12/30/2009 2:49:28 P.M.
