If you click on a link without first opening a browser, such as one of the ones below, that will answer your question. The browser that opens up the webpage for that link is your default. :-) David E. If you click a link somewhere the default browser is the one that opens the site automatically. If you use AOL it tends to make itself your default browser--and even your other browsers will probably have AOL's search box on them--AOL tends to be invasive that way. ;) Joan In a message dated 1/29/2010 4:33:57 P.M. That's precisely why I recommend that people using AOL for their mail and other features don't change to a different default browser. You don't NEED to make any browser your default to USE it. I don't think so--I just think you probably don't have as much "stuff" in the cache with the browser you haven't been using. I would still recommend Firefox or Chrome over IE though--I don't think IE is very secure, especially when you are using these game sites. Joan In a message dated 1/29/2010 12:44:48 P.M. No--when you are on AOL and click to use the INTEGRATED browser that browser will be AOL's IE. I wouldn't change my DEFAULT browser--I'd leave that as the AOL browser -- it doesn't really make any difference anyway--just open Firefox when you want to use it. It won't care if it's your default. :) Joan In a message dated 1/29/2010 12:50:43 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, PJSTON@aol.com writes: Is there a way to change the default browser on AOL? Is there a way to change the default browser on AOL? It gets annoying to always have to copy and paste an address into another browser. It surely would be handy to be able to click on the link and open the page. :) Patricia I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship. Louisa May Alcott

I don't know about incompatibility--that sounds like a copout. I just think that the AOL software and an integrated browser are too much if you use both for any length of time. Some of the Facebook and apps features just work better with Firefox and/or Chrome. They are both faster and more secure than IE in any form (including on AOL). Please feel free to ask if you have any question on using Firefox along with AOL and its browser. I think that topic IS relevant to this list since using a stand-alone browser is a "new" experience for many AOLers but with some of these social networking sites where security is an issue and some features are very "intense" and often too much for the integrated browser if heavily used -- so I don't mind this being discussed on the list if you need help. Shouldn't make a difference at all. You will just have up to 4 GB of room to back up to the DVD, as opposed to 700 - 800 MB on a CD. Jan - IL In a message dated 1/27/2010 4:45:48 P.M. Judy- Simple solution: Facebook and its apps will ONLY interfere with the AOL software if you use the integrated AOL browser for Facebook and its apps. Use Firefox or Chrome or ANY other independent browser other than IE and you won't have any trouble at all with AOL. Joan In a message dated 1/27/2010 11:35:00 A.M. I use AOL 8.0. Beginning yesterday, when I try to check my Spam Folder, I get a message that my software does not support this feature and recommends that I upgrade to a later version of AOL. Is this part of AOL's continued efforts to make everyone use the latest versions?? I am very unhappy with this latest change. Thanks, Sara
Also, IE is a part of Windows--so it shouldn't be uninstalled under any circumstances. The AOL browser still can be used and has its purpose--but it doesn't have to be your only browser.
