System Restore wouldn't fix this kind of problem. I tried that when I had my problem on the laptop and soon learned that system restore can't fix a corrupted file unfortunately. However, unless you made a restore point *before* you made the cleaning up mess you might not be able to restore to yesterday. Windows makes restore points periodically and if one was made yesterday then you can use that, but if it did not then you will have to use the restore point last made. I've lost access to "new mail" and "mail waiting to be sent". I can read old mail and sent mail but only sporadically. The only way I can read new mail is to use IE. I've never used "restore" but is that what I should do? Is it possible to restore to yesterday's date? Sorry I'm a bit (to put it mildly) computer illiterate. Anyone else having these problems? Joan, I did an upgrade. My only problem this morning is that it has taken me 20 minutes to get to the point where I could read my mail. I don't understand why it is so slow since when I use Chrome or Firefox everything is very fast. At first I thought McAfee might be scanning but it isn't. When it does scan, you might as well forget trying to do anything. I know that I need more RAM but that should affect using Chrome or Firefox too I would think. One other question, do I need to re-install the McAfee special edition for AOL? Thanks for your on-going help. Nancy
Did you have to do a clean install or just install over top of your old version? Joan In a message dated 2/2/2010 9:26:32 P.M. I keep a second account, with gmail.com to send my important emails plus saving them on AOL. Its like a backup account for me. I also send my important web sites to gmail.com when I can't get them to open up on AOL. Bev Carlson of MN. USA Handle every situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it. What a great idea Ema One way to to REALLY be sure that mail doesn't disappear would be to send it to yourself and save it on AOL. Then you would have a copy of the email and can copy and paste it into a new email to send when you are ready to do so. Joan

Now THAT'S the error message (an apparently common issue) I got on my old laptop with XP and AOL 9.0 SE. It seems to be a corruption of a file (possibly unrelated to ANYTHING you clicked). Someone on this list recently posted about this and said that AOL phone tech support was able to talk them through a lengthy solution. Joan In a message dated 2/2/2010 12:37:57 P.M.
