    2. Jack- Contact AOL immediately--by phone or any other means and explain what happened. Only they can help you resolve the matter. Joan In a message dated 2/20/2010 11:03:43 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, Jackbowk@aol.com writes: Joan, et al - Just turned on my computer to find my system has been attacked and a message of alarm sent to all my address book that I'm stranded in Europe and need help - send money etc. My address book is now empty - completely purged - my mail boxes are empty - and the files I've saved to AOL also. The false message has my name in the Subject line, and is apparently sent from "joanaspen@aol.com', as if I'm using her computer (whoever she is). Advice on how to proceed please. Jack

    1. Re: [AOL-RW] AOLERS-ROOTSWEB Digest, Vol 5, Issue 32......Icons
    2. It seems to be happening on only one e-mail name now. The first few weeks it was OK, but now I have 3 or more of some the icons now. What I did was move all the icons together and hopefully I won't have to keep moving the duplicates out of the way. In a message dated 2/6/2010 10:52:36 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, VanetteHobbs@aol.com writes: I had forgotten about the little glitch with the icons. Very annoying! I had extras showing up on my screen names that they didn't belong to as well as having maybe 3 or 4 sets of them on one name. I kept deleting the extras for a week or so and finally they stopped multiplying. I've been using 9.5 since the first week of November. One of mine has gone missing part of the time the last few days and I just noticed it's gone now. I hope it comes back soon (like next time I sign on to this screen name) because it's the only way I can get into one of my genealogy sites without going back through a bunch of old emails to find the link or pestering the owner to get it again. Good luck, hope yours straighten out soon too.

    2. No, I don't think so but it will never be as all-encompassing a program as it was. There is more exposure for the advertisers with Internet mail than client mail and therefore increased revenue. Currently a "Classic" AOL program is being readied for those members that love/like what has always been the standard email format. There are some changes since change is the name of the electronic game. At the same time the 'new and improved' Internet program is also being worked on. Hopefully members will find one or the other to their liking. Sharon ------------------------------------------ In a message dated 2/12/2010 11:52:49 A.M. 2. This was happening to a friend of mine. She would send me a message and I'd shortly receive two more of the same. She had a technician look at it and for a few days it was okay. 1. Re: [AOL-RW] AOL mail
    2. I too, have stayed because of the mail system on AOL. I have used others to see how they work but I have not liked a one of them. When I want to save an email, I copy and paste it then save it to a folder on my drive I have chosen. It is not saved from AOL to my computer, rather I do it myself. This way I can edit out the parts I don't want. I use the file>new and then paste into it. It is then saved as rtf or txt whatever I prefer. I like having more than one email open on my screen at a time. I have not found another that allows you to do that. Fran

    1. Re: [AOL-RW] What happened to the white pages?...AOL 9.0 Security Edition SE
    2. I've seen ISPs do things I never thought would happen, such as the loss of AOL and Geocities web pages. I'm concerned about the AOL mail presently saved on our computers. The saved mail is a proprietary format, and how will they be read when AoL no longer provides software to run it. Even the AOL mail currently saved on our computers becomes "That mail is no longer available", and the forwarded parts of forwards have disappeared. Seems that one has better luck preserving AOL mail in its complete form if left (saved) on AOL, as they don't disappear as much. I've searched and bought something that will convert AoL mail to DBX files (used on OE), something called ePreserver, available from _http://www.connectedsw.com/_ (http://www.connectedsw.com/) for $24.95. I've used it and it works pretty well, with exceptions for some attachments. I learned the hard way to create a new account on my Outlook Express and have that account open during conversion, as that where the AOL files go, so the AoL e-mail is not intermixed with my other Outlook Express e-mail. I had a time separating the AOL mail to new OE folders. I did find that after converting the old AOL mail to OE, I could find e-mails much faster using OE's "search" features. 2. Joan, the only reason I have stuck with AOL over the years was its mail system. The Chat now through AIM is trash in my opinion, as when you sign on, all you see are a lot of bare bottoms. Now the mail which I have enjoyed using is becoming a stranger lost in Cyber Forest. -----Original Message----- From: JYoung6180@aol.com To: aolers-rootsweb@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, Feb 12, 2010 3:07 pm Subject: Re: [AOL-RW] What happened to the white pages?...AOL 9.0 Security Edition SE I suspect it may or else we'll be downloading mail to Windows Mail or nother stand-alone email client eventually--just like everyone else does.
