Ann Thank you. When I go to Mail Controls, it takes me to a page that says The URL you requested cannot be delivered and suggests that I download AOL Destop for Mac Version 1.5. Do you know anything about this AOL Desktop? I really need my Spam folder, but don't want to change my email system from what it is. One of the main reasons I've stayed with AOL as my main email is the bare bones mail program. I have other email programs, but don't like all the 'fluff' that goes with them. For this reason, I'm reluctant to download a new AOL program without knowing what it's like. There used to be a place where I could set the intensity of the spam filter, but can't locate it on the OS X version. I'd be willing to set the security low and wade through the spam myself if I could find that setting. Thank you for your help. Patricia in Ga I have a Mac OS 10. This is how the new spam folder works for me. Open Mail menu on the AOL Toolbar. Click on "Mail Controls". That will take you to AOL Web mail. Type in your E-mail addy and password, or you may choose a new name and password. The Spam page will come up. There is an icon in red letter, that says open your span folder. Folder will come up like a popup. Check the e-mails that you want to delete. Close all open pages. Be sure and go to AOL preferences, and clear the cookies and display. Hope this helps, Ann In a message dated 2/3/10 12:15:24 AM, aolers-rootsweb-request@rootsweb.com writes: > Re: spam folders (PJSTON@aol.com) >
Thanks Joan... I appreciate the information. "AOL's IMAP mail system stores the mail on AOL's servers--it isn't all downloaded when we click to read mail using the AOL mail program. As we click to read an email it becomes accessible to us unless the server that particular email is stored on at AOL is down or inaccessible for some reason. The fact that you can read OTHER inbox messages and just not the one or two indicates those emails are on a server that AOL can't find for you at that time. Eventually, those email DO become available again when the server comes backup--but you usually have to close your mailbox and reopen it to get those emails. Joan"
Unsend mail feature has been totally discontinued. None of the versions of AOL have it any longer. Sharon In a message dated 3/2/2010 6:57:17 A.M. Sara- No...I believe that feature had to be discontinued when AOL changed their e-mail program. It is connected to the same change that has added full Internet headers to mail sent from one AOLer to another. Since it all goes out over the "Internet" now -- it can't be unsent once that happens, just like mail you used to send to non-AOLers couldn't be unsent. Joan In a message dated 3/2/2010 9:57:10 A.M. I have version 9.5 and just did a test by sending my husband a test email. I went to unsend it and was thinking that all was still ok because the unsend button was still there. But like you, a little box popped up after I clicked the unsend button saying that feature was no longer available. I guess we have to be more careful about double checking what we are sending now. Shucks - another impulsive activity is going by the wayside. Ruth In a message dated 3/2/2010 7:57:12 A.M. Thanks, Bev, but evidently my mail program doesn't look or work the same as yours. Many of the screens and features are different on AOL for Mac. Thanks for trying, though. :) Patricia in Ga In a message dated 3/1/10 8:47:07 PM, Wkrelease@aol.com writes: > Re: spam folders. > Its still there. Re: spam folders. Its still there. When you see something that is spam just click on spam controls at the bottom of the email list. From there you will have to go to the site where you have the list of words/emails that you have blocked. Add the new email address & go to the bottom where it says save. When you go to delete emails you will see your spam. Either delete it or if its not spam click on its not spam. Not a problem. Just a note, Patricia, (and this goes for everyone else in digest mode also)...please don't quote/copy the entire digest in your reply. Snip out all but the message to which you are replying. As to your statement about your name and someone else with the same name...It really doesn't matter too much as all of your email addresses are visible as the sender -- so we can tell you apart. :) Joan In a message dated 3/1/2010 7:47:08 P.M. This was happening to me. I was having small troubles with AOL for some time, but ignored them. Finally I was not able to dial-up at all. AOL has sent me a new 9.0 disc once the Tech realized my software was too corrupt to repair. My instructions are to uninstall all AOL manually then install the new disc. Been using free AOL anywhere until I am fixed. The Tech said it was important, once I got the disc, to call back and tell them I want to manually un-install all AOL files. I don't know if there is more to that then meets the eye or not.
