    2. I do not understand how AOL can delete something from your computer. When Lloyd said "I click Save on my PC. I have a folder in it named Saved mail" is that an option on 9.0? I save a lot of things on my computer, in "My Documents." Are those the kinds of things AOL can delete? I like to delete emails as I read them. Sometimes I have over 100 in my Inbox. Some I save by not letting them go to the Read Mail. I hate the clutter of a lot of emails in either my Read email or Inbox. I also routinely empty the deleted mail folder. I would really hate to have something that I have saved to my filing cabinet deleted by AOL. 2. Joan, This is the part I do not understand. How do you create another folder? I do not see SAVE>ON MY PC as an option. Is this only with AOL 9.0? I have the option to create a folder, but that is in the filing cabinet. And that would still be the default folder, correct? I have AOL 6.0. Are your instructions for the 9.0 and not for 6.0? Then go to window on the top america on line, when the banner comes down click on the Remember size and location and you should be all set ... gerri mason oh

Lloyd Lloyd- And this is usually ok--unless you also manually delete the mail from your inbox or old mail without letting it get deleted automatically. I know this sounds illogical that AOL assumes you also want to delete the copy on your computer--but as Sharon pointed out they started doing this some time back because too many AOLers were saving all their mail to their computers and not even realizing how much had built up and then having computer problems. So, in effect, they dumbed things down to accomodate the least knowledgeable users and thoroughly confused their experienced subscribers in the process. Joan

So how do I get another folder to save my mail? And would that mean I am saving on my computer rather than on AOL? (Hoping that this time I will finally "get" this) Thanks Judy Judy- AOL 9.0 is when I first saw it happen--so I'd guess yes to that question. Yes--the default folder in the INCOMING SAVED MAIL folder in the filing cabinet. To save mail to another folder just create a folder and when you click on SAVE>ON MY PC>next you select the folder in which you want to save mail. Yes--this means you are saving on your PC and not AOL. However, if you want to save on AOL--your mail won't be deleted there unless you delete it. Joan

Lloyd Lloyd- Sooner or later you are going to get stung by AOL's penchant for deleting the saved mail when you delete the already read mail from the inbox/old mail folder. If you want to permanently save mail it is best to place it in a folder other than the default saved mail folder. Personally I can't see the reason for deleting your already read mail as you go along--it will delete itself in time so it isn't clogging up your computer--it is stored on AOL's server and not your computer anyway. 2. In a message dated 4/1/2006 11:10:29 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, JYoung6180@aol.com writes: Assuming you are saving the email to the default incoming saved mail folder on your PC, this shouldn't have any bearing on accessing the next email in line in your inbox but it won't delete the message from your incoming mail either. The next time you open the inbox the messages marked already read (including the one you saved to your PC) should be moved over to your old mail folder--but should also be on your PC where you saved it. I'm concerned that if you are manually DELETING the message from your inbox after saving it to the default folder on your PC that AOL may also be deleting your saved copy--I know it has happened to many of us. Better check! Joan I prefer to delete the mail I do not want to keep as I go. The ones I keep is saved in a folder on my PC. I haven't had any of them deleted by AOL yet. To turn this off, follow these directions: 1) Click on Settings in the AOL menu area 2) Click on Internet [Web] Options 3) On the Right side, click on Internet Explorer settings 4) Click on the Advanced tab at the top 5) scroll down to Browsing and check/tick Disable Script debugging (other) 6) Click Apply and then OK Close all those open windows and you are good to go.
