The Set Up Folders button at the bottom should be usable and when you click on it, the choice of Create New Folder should be available. Sharon

Sharon +++++++++++++++ Sharon, I've tried everything in trying to create new folders on my "Saved on AOL", and nothing works. When I go to the "Manage mail" tab, there is a "Set up folders" bar at the bottom of the "My Mail Folders", and it greys out on everything but the "Saved on my PC" folder. I have AOL 9 Optimized, Revision 4148.5121. Could be this version is the problem. HOWEVER, I just now tried a different approach. I went to web mail .... http:www.aol.com and signed in. When signed in, I could edit my "Saved on AOL" so that two new folders were created: IN and SENT. In any case, thanks for letting me know that it was possible to add folders in "Saved on AOL". The above workaround should be a boon for others whose version of AOL 9 won't let one add those folders. Woody

(doing the latter does seem to work, but is rather time consuming) Thanks Paul W Paul- Rebooting the computer WON'T reboot the modem. The modem is an external DSL modem, I assume--I don't know of any internal DSL modems. Reboot the modem by diconnecting it from the incoming DSL line (all flashing lights will go dark). Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in and it should reboot itself. My experience has been with a cable modem but I believe DSL modems are similar--if I am wrong I trust someone will correct me. Joan

    2. Lloyd, I, too, am one that has lost valuable e-mails from AOL's unusual deletion practice. After knowing that an e-mail was "safely" saved in my personal filing cabinet, I would delete the one in the "IN" basket. I was not aware that AOL 9.0, when one deletes an e-mail in the "IN" basket, also deletes the same e-mail that is in personal filing cabinet. I lost many e-mails until I discovered through this list what was going on. And after my saved e-mails crashed (I had recently backed them up from the "organize" folder, so I still have them), I started backing up my e-mails on the AOL server. Unfortunately, the AOL server doesn't have "IN" and "SENT" folders. They're all intermixed in one folder. It stays disconnected until I want to back up some files. Lloyd Lloyd- I gues I didn't make the specific point I was trying to get across--that by "redundancy" of saving important files I meant saving in different places. In other words, God forbid, you had a fire in your house or flood or earthquake or other disaster--having a file saved locally even on two different hard drives wouldn't protect your file. Having you file save in a place physically removed from your computer is a good idea. That is also one of the benefits of having your genealogy files on the Internet in GEDCOM format in a place like WorldConnect--you can always retrieve the complete unedited file you updated in case of loss of data on your computer. 2. Good Morning, I am currently in MA to watch a granddaughter in a play. I am accessing AOL mail through Internet Explorer. Whenever I try to open any of the Digest mail I get an error message. Does anyone know if this is an anomaly or if this is a permanent problem with Digest mail? Ruth Cherecwich

Judy ---- Judy- When you use AOL you grant AOL a limited type of access to your computer to perform certain tasks. When you use the computer checkup and the spyware program they are checking and blocking various things they find on your computer. Only in rare cases does AOL become more invasive than that as to your computer--one example I can think of is when they changed all the settings on AOL users' computers to OFF for Microsoft's Windows Messenger as they were getting too many complaints about it. AOL did this before Microsoft issued Service Pack II which also changed the default setting to OFF. Joan
