When I first logged on to AOL I found that my filing cabinet was empty, and all my favorite places had disappeared. Can anyone tell me where I can find them? ------------------- Barbara, Yes, they are right where you left them on you OLD computer. They are saved to your computer and you changed computers. You will need to copy the organize folder from your OLD computer to a CD or a flash drive and then move the CD or flash drive to your new computer and save the organize folder there. So fire up your old computer and start copying. While you are on there, open your AOL program and go to keyword: Favorite Places Preferences and check to have your Favorites stored on AOL. Then when you go to your NEW computer, open your favorite places and they should all be in place. Next repeat going to keyword: Favorite Places Preferences and this time uncheck to have your Favorites stored on AOL. You now have your Favorites on your NEW computer. Your computer is rather like a filing cabinet. When the old one gets full or old and tired, you go to the store and buy a new filing cabinet. One that is bigger and can hold all your old files and have room for new ones to come as well. However, you can't bring the new filing cabinet home from the store, set it up and open it expecting to see all your old files there, ready to go. You have to physically move the old files from the old cabinet to the new one. Same with your computers. Having the Internet can make moving files easier for some things, but others have to be done the old-fashioned way. :-) I recently got a new computer and I had the old one still set up for about 2 weeks so I could still get my files when I needed something. I tried to move things right away, but there were some things I didn't think about until I needed to use them. My desk was a *bit* crowded, but it worked for me. Sharon

You would need to transfer the folder to your new computer and move it into your AOL program on your new computer. Joan

    2. Good morning Go to AOL.com and go to your mailbox there. Your filing cabinets S/B there also. I lost everything a while back and discovered that they were safe there. Best of luck. I tried clicking on it from the desktop, but get a Message that Windows cannot open the organize file. Can someone remind me how to find it. I had saved all the instructions in an AOL folder, but alas that too has gone. And I Think I have problems. They just showed on the news that when AOL employes went to work at the Jacksonville FL call center, they were called into a room and fired. They had no warning and are worried about their families and bills. Is this more work AOL has sent overseas? The reason they gave employees, according to the news, is that the firing was for financial reasons and the call center is being closed. Isn't that wonderful? Loyal employees go to work and without warning are fired?

What does the file that is on your desktop say (for the description) and how long has it been there? I had assumed it was placed there by AOL at a recent time when you upgraded--but, it not it might not be what you are looking for. If the stored mail you are looking for was in the default incoming saved mail folder and you deleted the mail from your inbox--don't forget that AOL assumes you also want it deleted from your stored saved mail files. After you install the new version you need to move the folder off your desktop back into the new version of AOL in order to open it--you can't just open it from the desktop--you need to have it associated with (in) your AOL program in order to open the files...but rest assured they shouldn't be lost.

    2. I have both Acrobat Reader (v. 7.0, fully updated) and Acrobat (v. 5.0, also fully updated) on my PC. I am running Windows XP, and the file association for pdf files is set to Acrobat Reader 7.0. However, whenever I try to open a pdf file from AOL, it tries to use Acrobat 5.0. Also, the file won't open. I can save the file (right-click and "save target as") and then it will open OK in Acrobat Reader. Is there some other setting in AOL that overrides the file type association in Windows? Wilson
