I haven't used PayPal in a while, and I am not wite sure what that means. 1. Re: AOLers-RootsWeb-D Digest V06 #126
    2. Dianna, I have had the same experiences as you with India tech help. I also had the same experience as you with a lady here in the States telling me that my AOL was corrupt and to go and purchase a new AOL CD. I got some help with a couple other fellows, one was very good and the others seemed not so. I did uninstall and reinstall AOL 9.0 CD which cost me $10.00 and I could have gotten one free from Walmart or the Post Office and it would have been a CD which was 9.0SE instead of just plain 9.0. I worried about it being corrupt tho as the one lady tech said. I then had to contact AOL again for help and was told to upgrade over the computer to the security edition. I did that. I still have some problems but am trying to work them out, one at a time. My grand daughter found my Favorite Places for me and I was very appreciative. She is in 8th grade. Doesn't say a whole lot for grandma here does it?? I still do not know how to get back my filing cabinet. I am happy you got yours restored. I hope to figure it out as you did. I wish I knew more about Computers. I have been with AOL since May of 1995. Patricia..

    1. BE VERY CAREFUL USING AOL TECH'S
    2. Please be VERY CAREFUL about using AOL Tech support. I recently got a modem from Bell South to use with AOL. There seemed to be some minor problems, and I contacted Tech support for them to help me. I had two different case numbers by the time that I was done. I am a "dummie in cyberspace" and need to be walked through various steps to correct the situations. The first person I got was from Florida and he was very good! I had to reinstall my AOL 9.0. I called (someone on a different continent) to have then walk me through restoring my filing cabinet and that went well. Since I was starting anew, I decided to clean out my filing cabinet. I had a simple question and called and got a gentleman from India over the internet. I wanted to know how to CLOSE file so that I did not have to scroll through all of the 5.000 messages to move something. It took FOREVER for him to understand what I wanted (you double click on the folder). I was not a "happy" camper and I think that he knew that. The next day, I received a message that my password was invalid. I have been with AOL for over eight years and NEVER had this problem. That got fixed okay, but something happened to my AOL and I was receiving the message that a part of the memory for AOL could not be read and I had to close or cancel to debug it. Once again, I called AOL (in addition to McAfee to make sure that I did not have a virus). AOL had me uninstall and reinstall AOL 9.0. I called to restore my filing cabinet and the young woman (from Tucson, Arizona) I talked to told me how to do it and it did not work. She immediately said that the filing cabinet was corrupt and I had lost all of my "stuff." At this point, I just got off. I refused to accept that my filing cabinet was lost and finally restored it myself--don't ask me how I did it, I am just happy that I did. If I had gone along with the young woman's judgement, I probably would have lost the filing cabinet forever. She immediately went into a spill about AOL capabilities of storing your filing cabinet at AOL--hum-m-m. Makes you wonder? Now, I still occasionally get the message about Port AOLexe. Application Error Ox1002fc04, and I either close it or cancel it to debug it. It does not matter which way I go, I still get the message sometimes, but not always. I am just happy to have my filing cabinet back, but I will not EVER trust the techs at AOL either in this country or anywhere else. I did find out, though, that if you call real early in the morning, you have a better chance of getting someone from this country to work with. Based on my conversation with the guy from India, I think that I have decided that while they can speak good english, they do not understand english. Dianna

You may have to end up doing that--but I'd try going through tech support first. You wold probably do best calling on the phone. It does sound as though something is seriously corrupted. Joan Joan , I got my problems solved ... the tech was a lady in Phoenix Arizonia , who spoke english, and she stayed on the phone w/me for 50 minutes ... she made sure I was back on line and I had to down load A O L again ... She had me to uninstall the old one , she said that if I did not , that it would be running in the background, and would probably still cause me problems ... Thanks for your help as always gerri
