    1. Re:screen size
    2. Sometime ago when the question of the ads first appeared, I pulled my main screen down and covered up the ads. Now no ads. When this thread started, I worked on my message screen and now I'm not sure what I did. But I think I maximized a message so that it covered the screen. No ads. Then I clicked on "Window" "Remember size and Position" and now when I open a new message it covers the entire screen. No ads. Virginia Green PS: The ads I wouldn't mind, it is the constant moving and flashing that really affects my eyes.

    2. This may be a dumb idea but.... do you suppose it has anything to do with settings. On the Pop-up control deal - under the tab "AOL PopUps", I have mine set to not receive AOL Popups. I am in Texas and I don't seem to be seeing what all of you are talking about either. Take care - Emma In a message dated 6/4/2006 12:36:29 P.M. What this actually means is that you can have all your RootsWeb resources--webpage, subscribed lists, adminned lists, RSL listings, WorldConnect GEDCOM connected to one account that you use for Ancestry message boards, MyFamily websites, paid Ancestry subscription etc. It does help in updating email addresses to have registration and everything under one account. That doesn't mean if you already have multiple Ancestry accounts that they will be merged--they won't, not yet anyway. Joan

    2. That's for changing or resubscribing with a new name, isn't it? It does not attach the new screen name with all old messages on the internet.

    1. On changing your eMail addy at Roots Web
    2. Currently, the top item on the RootsWeb Help Desk page http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ concerns changing your eMail addy: Now you can login to RootsWeb and have all your accounts linked into one. This will make changing your email address easier and you will only have to remember one member name (user name) and one password. If you have any questions, please read the FAQs at: http://myaccount.rootsweb.com/aboutregistration.html and if that doesn't answer your question, contact the HelpDesk. Please note that the old message boards are not connected to this registration process but the new ones will be. For additional information on how one can change their eMail addy at Roots Web, please see: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/addresses/ I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. 1. More Ads Appearing
    2. Hi, I have the same problem now. This morning my mail was normal. Now I have to maximize the email to be able to read it. There is no scroll bar on the right side unless its enlarged. This is the pits.........AOL is messing up BAD!!! I can live with the ad at the bottom, but not having to maximize each piece of mail Any solution for this?? Thanks......... Whenever I open an individual email, there is a large, annoying banner box at the bottom filled with ads. This is a new experience for me.

    2. There are companies that provide email forwarding for a fee, but I don't know who they are. I think they somehow "intercept" emails sent to your old email and then forward the messages to your new email address. Maybe someone on the list has more information. 2. Sharon, It is so tempting to just drop AOL, but I have the same situation as does Joan. I have been working on genealogy for years and my email is on hundreds of RootsWeb messages. I still get responses and inquiries from messages that are 2-3 years old, so changing ISPs would be difficult. I also sent complaints to POSTMASTER and TOSGENERAL, as well as to TELL US MORE. I doubt sending the complaint to the first two will make a difference, but it is worth a shot. Here is the text of my complaint, "The inclusion of the outrageous banner ads at the bottom of this window is one of the most foul, disgusting, annoying and revolting changes AOL has ever devised. Most interesting is that when the developers first introduced this change to the beta testers there was such a barrage of complaints the change was dropped. But someone has obviously overruled the developers. All you have accomplished is to make your customers very, very mad. If you want to make a useful change, give us the ability to alphabetize and print Favorite Places." Jon Raymond St Paul Park, MN Web site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~raymond/

The method used to resize the listed mail window, i.e., the window that shows all waiting emails, will not work to resize the window used to read an individual email. When you try to pull down from the top, the white space that shows the email text shrinks, but the banner ad at the bottom will not disappear until you only have 2-4 lines of email text showing. AOL changed something. Anyone want to bet that AOL is trying to find a way to undo the resizing we've done of the listed mail window? What's next? We will have to click on an ad before we can read an email? Oooops...maybe I shouldn't have said that! Jon Raymond St Paul Park, MN Web site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~raymond/ Go to Window at top of screen open chose Cascade, then drag sides and top and bottom of New Emails until it fills screen, you can get rid of ad that way. But delete is way over to the right.

    1. "TELL US" now is changed to "TELL US MORE"
    2. When checking the Keyword List, the only Keyword that begins with "TELL" on the Keyword List is "TELL AOL" which is for telling the AOL staff if someone is bothering you online. Neither "TELL US" nor "TELL US MORE" are on the Keyword List. Regards, Walter Greenspan Great Falls, MT & Jericho, NY

They are the same as those ads on the mailbox screen that you have lowered to cover. Each individual email as it is opened has one at the bottom in the same way. You can also move the window of the emails down in the same way you have already done to the mailbox window to avoid the joy of these ads, but please remember to COMPLAIN when you get them. I think they are giving these a try in certain areas to see what kind of response they get - at least I hope that's what they are doing. So please, everyone that is seeing them, if you don't like them, send a complaint to Keyword: Tell Us More Sharon
