Joan, I think the confusion here is that I am not fully describing what happens. The Report Spam and Print icons are not disappearing on the side, but rather on the bottom. Assume I drag the bottom line down as far as possible and then drag down using the top line. The Report Spam and Print icons are sliding **behind** the ad banner box and disappearing. If I drag the Read/Write email window down from the top, the ads will disappear, but then I'm left with just 4 lines in the message text box and two of the icons on the right, Report Spam and Print, disappear! This shouldn't happen. If you start with the email window in the normal size and position first drag that window down far enough to hide the ads--it shouldn't change what appears on the SIDE of the email window at all and you can move it down to hide the ads with the Save, Keep as New delete, etc. buttons still showing. Next after you have MOVED the window DOWN put your cursor at the top of the window until it turns into the doublt arrow. Then drag it up to enlarge it to the size you want. Then select the menu to remember window size and placement. You shouldn't have to change the width of the window at all and if you don't it won't lose the buttons on the right side. Joan

I have noticed an unhappy alteration in the past few days. Now, off to the right of the listing of the new mails, is a box called "Quick Read" - which is really annoying. By dragging edges I can obscure the quick read box, but the "Remember size and position" command is dimmed out. And I'd love to get rid of the Quick Read sidebar/box/nuisance. Forever. Does anyone have any ideas? Suggestions? Or do I get out the shotgun? Bill in Denver

Jon, Did you also pull the screen to the right to show all the icons before you went to the top and clicked on Window, then clicked on Remember window Size and Position? Mine has been fine since I did that ... maybe shouldn't say that too loud as I've been deleting all the e-mails about this problem because it I wasn't affected until this morning. AOL must have us in some kind of blocks where they hit on one group at a time. Now it was my turn! Good Luck, Gail Vacaville, CA

Did you try dragging the window from the very bottom, below the ad? Move your cursor around until you see the arrows pointing up and down, then pull it down with your cursor ... it opens up the rest of the window. At first this morning, I couldn't even move the lines up and down as the gray area on the right side was also missing. Got that and the icons back by stretching to the right. Hope it works for you. As I turned my computer off last night, I received a message that my AOL was being updated ... I guess this was it! Lucky me! Also a e-mail from AOL this AM that their Gift Reminder Service will be gone in 60 days. I found the ad at the bottom of my e-mail, but no icons along the right side (Reply, Forward, etc.) nor was I seeing all of the e-mail. I stretched it to the right and also down, then pulled the whole e-mail down until the ad doesn't show. Went to Window, then clicked on Remember window size and position. Apparently AOL can only "upgrade" us one section at a time. And I thought I was one of the lucky ones to not have to worry about the ads on the e-mails ... NOT! Gail Vacaville, CA
Using AOL 9.0 Optimized SE. The dog add is very distracting, altering the mail size as described recently works. I also found if you click the mouse on the box in upper right corner and "restore down" the adds are covered. Dave

I did this using the same method we all used earlier to hide the ads at the bottom of the mailbox window. Joan

I just had a thought , when you have that large page on the screen got back to Window and click on Forget window size and position and then start the placement over .... I think that will help you .... I just did this ... Have a good day and good luck gerri mason OhiO Sometime ago when the question of the ads first appeared, I pulled my main screen down and covered up the ads. Now no ads. When this thread started, I worked on my message screen and now I'm not sure what I did. But I think I maximized a message so that it covered the screen. No ads. Then I clicked on "Window" "Remember size and Position" and now when I open a new message it covers the entire screen. No ads. Virginia Green PS: The ads I wouldn't mind, it is the constant moving and flashing that really affects my eyes.
This morning I don't have ads on the main mail page or individual email. Thats the way it works here.........no ad but I have the red X in a box. But the next time I log on, the ads might appear. Haven't figured out why!! How many are actually clicking on the ads anyway.......not me. I never check to see what they are selling.
