    1. Problem with AOL connecting to the Internet
    2. Hello List, For several weeks, I have had a problem with AOL getting connected to the Internet. No problem signing on after booting up in the morning. The next time I can sign-on, get the welcome message and then wait for several minutes and finally get a message that AOL could not make a full connection to the Internet. I can reboot, then sing-on, get to the Internet with no problem. Sometimes I have to reboot 4 or 5 times a day depending on how many times I go online. I am running Windows XP with SP-2, AOL Security Edition SE, Revision 4184.5319.

Lloyd Lloyd- I think the next item to check would be your phone line. Unplug the modem from the phone jack and plug a phone in there and see if you get a good connection. Also check the plug going into your computer from the phone cord. Joan

    1. Re: [AOL-RW] AOL conflict with Myfamily.com
    2. And so it continues! I decided since I could not view photos on myfamily.com sites using AOL 9.0 I would use AOL 8.0 (which I had done on the 25th before sending my original message to the list). So today I go to AOL 8.0 and it won't open. The icon is there, the program with all it's files is there under program files but it will not open. When I look at the files I see several that were created at the same time (7:19 PM) on the date (25th) that I used it to view the myfamily.com photos. Would any of those files possibly give me a clue as to what I did to "break" AOL 8.0? As far as I know the only thing I did was look at photos. It was working fine when I signed off. My husband was a lot of help - he threw up his hands and walked out of the room. Vonda In a message dated 6/26/2006 7:33:01 A.M. Central Standard Time, VondaD@aol.com writes: Thanks Jon. Sorry I forgot to mention I am using Windows XP and I receive Windows automatic updates so I should be up to date. What is strange is that I did not have this problem until I reinstalled AOL 9.0. I still have AOL 8.0 on my computer and I have no problem viewing the photos on myfamily.com when I use it. Do not plan to contact AOL - my blood pressure can't handle talking cross purposes for an hour with someone who can't understand me! Vonda In a message dated 6/25/2006 6:45:19 P.M. 2. Thanks Sharon, Changed Resolution from 1024 to 1280, and it fit perfectly. I'll save 2) in case I forget those instructions. What do i have to save from the aol 5 files and move to 10? I'm not familiar with a Mac--either the old or new Mac systems. However, I would advise opening the new AOL 10 program and checking your settings and content to see what carried over (in other words what AOL stored for you online vs. what was stored on your computer). When you have figured out what is "missing" then you will know what you need to save and move over to your new AOL version. Obviously any contents of your personal filing cabinet and downloaded files will need to be moved over. Other than that check for your favorites and address book, etc. and if they are not there in the new version--then they will need to be moved over as well. I wouldn't delete the old AOL 5 until you feel confident that you have saved and moved what you need to the new version. Joan

    2. I will be on the Internet for a while; various. Just click on it, takes several times; eventually it goes away, to pop up later. If clicking on okay doesn't get rid of it, then we just move it out of sight. We have adjusted the start-up to get rid of as much as we can. Virginia In a message dated 6/26/2006 1:06:34 P.M. 2. Bettye, The problem occurs not just occasionally but each and every time I try to view a photo on a myfamily.com site. I guess I will just use Internet Explorer or my old AOL 8 when I visit a myfamily.com site. Thanks for your response. At least I know I am not the only one who has encountered this problem. I usually just stop trying for the time being and go back later with no problems. I didn't contact AOL because I thought it was a problem with Myfamily.com or just a connection issue. It doesn't happen very often and so I don't think of it as enough of a problem to contact anyone. I'll try using Internet Explorer next time, but I prefer not to use it. I believe that AOL is a safer browser. Bettye

A) Simply use the pointed curser and place it within the top (often blue) bar. Click and hold. B) You can then move the curser towards the top of the screen until you can see the bottom of said screen. Then release the click you are holding on your mouse. C) Now place you curser on the bottom edge of the window until it becomes a 2-sided arrow. Click and hold the 2-sided arrow. D) Now move this curser towards the top of the screen to make the window small enough to fit the area where you want it. When you have it where and the size you want it, release the mouse-click. E) NOW, go to the very top of the AOL screen and click on the menu item called 'Windows' and then select Forget window position and size. NOW go back to that same menu once again and this time click on Remember window position and size. You're done. Sharon

    2. Hi AOLers, After doing an AOL check up, they recommended I install a new update of AOL 9.0 SE. I had a new CD from AOL, and installed it, and went through all the setups and install. Now when I want to start an email I can't hit the address at the top of any list without getting this error message: "We're sorry, the AOL Member Directory page you requested is not available right now. Please try again later." I didn't change my email settings from the previous settings. What will correct this? Thanks, Lloyd
