This exact same thing is happening to me also at least 10-15 times a day. And has every since there was an automatic update to my AOL several days ago. I am not on dialup but cable, I am in OH and I have not changed the rate I am paying AOL. Plus it is happening to both my children one in Akron OH the other in Columbus OH. It is very annoying especially when it causes the computer to freeze up if I am in the middle of a long email or working on a project, all is lost unless I have stopped and save it at every step of the way. Does anyone know what is going on? Does this sound like a software corruption? Is anyone else having this kind of difficulty? It is a regional thing --I'm in Columbia, MO.
Thanks to several of you who have made suggestions as to how I can find out whether my change to $9.95 did indeed go through. HOWEVER, it doesn't matter what I click on to try to access my account, whether it's My Account on the Welcome screen, Help on the toolbar, Help in Keywords -- I don't get there. I either get into the aforementioned loop, or I get Can't Locate Server (this one really puzzles me. If AOL IS my server, does this mean it can't find itself???), or Page Cannot be Displayed etc. Also AOL freezes, 10-15 times a day or simply closes, as in *blink* it's gone. Is anyone else having this kind of difficulty? And if so, and if it might be a regional thing, I'm in Columbia, MO. Needless to say, this is driving me nuts. Especially when I'm in the middle of a hot genealogy site and it shuts down! Vanette
Didn't someone write this forum and say that AOL would not let them out of the subscription?
Hi list, For some time now I have subscribed via dial-up with one annual payment in January for unlimited use. This costs me about $240 per year. I am confused whether I can instantly save money by changing to the unlimited dial up plan which is apparently $9.95. This would require me to be credited for the unused balance remaining until next January. Or, do I have to wait until next January to change my plan. I would still want to do one payment per year. Any help much appreciated. Dick in Las Vegas
I just turned my Spam filter off for now. I had hundreds of Rootsweb mail in Spam. Had to use this is not Spam for each one. No problem now. I'll just send Spam to folder myself
Vanette; I have AOL 8.0 on dial up. I went to settings, billing center, it asks the Account Security Question and brought me to My Account. I was able to change to the $9.95 plan, it was instantaneous. My husband has not switched yet, we're waiting to see if anything changes after the next billing date. If everything remains the same, he'll change also. Maybe someday we'll even go DSL!!!! Don't want to do too many changes to us old people!!! Have a good week and happy hunting. AnneMarie

If there is, why was the system changed to become worse? I am sure there are some persons who access RootsWeb and only have one e-mail account with their software. Others have to create more e-mail addresses, Why? Anytime you make changes there are some difference between the old and new. Many of the REALLY good aspects of the new software are ones you won't be seeing right from the start because they still require some additional work. For instance: once everything is in place you will be able to handle your own list subscriptions from a webpage and can set NO MAIL when you go on vacation, set your own option as to the format you want for digests (individually) and even select what LANGUAGE you want to receive your list mail in! There are so many great features I can't name them all. BUT...along with every changeover there are some things that are different and some of those differences require adjustments on our part. One difference is that while the OLD list software considered each list TWO separate lists (and L list and a D list) the new software just treats it as ONE list with two subscription modes--so it becomes an either/or situation. You choose your mode but you can't have duplication of an address. You could sign up for digests under ONE screen name though and list mail under a different one. That would work even if the only mail you use is AOL email. Joan

Same thing happened to me. I wasn't sure, but I thought my pay day for AOL was the 10th of the month, so I wanted it changed before that. Found out today that it was not changed. Make sure you get a verifying email from AOL when changing. I followed the procedure to change my plan to the $9.95/mo plan. When I checked two days later it was not changed. I clicked on "Help" and after explaining the problem AOL Help changed it for me and sent a e-mail verifying the change. Dave
Hi, All- RootsWeb is in the process of switching over to new upgraded list management software. It is my expectation that this list will be migrated over to the new system sometime tomorrow. For list subscribers, the changeover should be smooth. The changes primarily involve the administration tools that keep the list running behind the scenes. The list name is changing from AOLers-RootsWeb-L@rootsweb.com to just AOLers-RootsWeb@rootsweb.com. So you may subscribe or unsub by sending your request to: AOLers-RootsWeb-request@rootsweb.com with one exception. If you wish to subscribe in Digest mode you must send your subscribe request to AOLers-RootsWeb-D-request@rootsweb.com . You may also continue sending your requests as you always have--either will work. The word SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE must be included in the subject and may also be included in the message body. Digest subscribers will notice some changes to the list digests. New instructions will be added to the digests -- please read them. In addition, the digest volume and issue number may be different (out of sequence) from what you had been receiving. If your digests arrive in a different format than you are used to and you would like it changed, contact me privately at the list admin address: AOLers-RootsWeb-admin@rootsweb.com. Also, if you run into any unusual or confusing occurrences with mail from this list that could possibly be related to the chageover, let me know. If you use email headers to filter list mail to a special folder in your email program you may need to check whether your filters will need tweaking under the new system. If you previously subscribed to the list in both L and D modes using the same email address you will find that you are no longer subbed in Digest mode. The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subbed in both L and D modes. Therefore, if you wish to receive both modes, you will need to subscribe to the digests using a different email address. Please continue to send your queries, data, and responses to the list as usual. Thanks! Joan, admin AOLers-RootsWeb-L@rootsweb.com

Do not go to Keyword Billing. Just click on "My Account" which appears on the AOL welcome page (just below the "search" box). Answer the Account Security Question and you will be taken to page showing your current account and below that the "Pending Plan" which will supposedly take effect on your next billing date. If you go over to the left and clink on Price Plan you will get a window that tells you: Pending Price Plan Discount test $9.95 unlimited and the effective date will be listed. There is a drop down box at the bottom of this page that allows you to either: Cancel My Pending Price Plan or Edit my present plan. I just wish it said something about dial up in the Pending Price Plan but it doesn't. I went to the Change Plan site day before yesterday and clicked the 9.95 button and got the acknowledged page which said to go to keyword My Account to verify the change. I went there and it was showing the usual 23.31 fee due on 9 Sep. Yesterday, I went back there again and it was the same. I went to Change Plan and clicked on the 9.95 button again, but it still did not change. How long does it take for it to verify the change? By the way, what was wrong with the AOLers site yesterday? I did not get a single message from them, but have received 3 or 4 this morning. Lloyd
