Pacific Standard Time, BogusWoody@aol.com writes: AOLers using AOL 9.0 get their URLs scrambled with a dash ("_") prefix and suffix, and then the URL is repeated with parenthesis around it. There's a way for AOLers (with AOL 9.0) to prevent that from happening: Before you hit the "Send Now" button, right click on the screen and on the popup menu click on "Compose as plain text". ------------- Woody and other listers, You can also just right click on the active link (BEFORE you send, of course) and ask to remove the hyperlink. 2. TIP: AOLers using AOL 9.0 get their URLs scrambled with a dash ("_") prefix and suffix, and then the URL is repeated with parenthesis around it. There's a way for AOLers (with AOL 9.0) to prevent that from happening: Before you hit the "Send Now" button, right click on the screen and on the popup menu click on "Compose as plain text". That clears off all the blue stuff (HTML) that causes it. EXAMPLE: _http://www.usgenweb.net_ (http://www.usgenweb.net) (result of sent with link "blued") http://www.usgenweb.net (result of clicking on "compose as plain text") Woody

    1. Admin Notice
    2. Hi, All- I know I reported a few days ago that we'd be migrated over to the new list management system by now, we are still operating under the old system and waiting for the changeover. The latest estimate is that we will be migrated sometime today. I'd like to alert the list members that over the past few days those of us who use AOL and who have other lists that use the new system and are on the new servers, have had some problems with receipt of list mail. Right now RootsWeb is investigating the cause of the problem. What has been happening is that mail from the new server is being either delayed many hours before being delivered to us at AOL (usually in a clump overnight) or is being placed in spam folders. RootsWeb has assured me that the new servers have been white-listed with AOL and that things SHOULD be running smoothly but they have not been. Our list being migrated at this time will hopefully help RootsWeb and AOL in sorting out whatever the issues might be. In the meantime after we migrate I'd like to remind list members that they can check the list archives if they think they are not receiving all mail from the list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/AOLers-RootsWeb/2006-08 Thanks and keep your fingers crossed for a successful changeover hopefully later today. Pacific Standard Time, Merrittrfl@aol.com writes: Whenever I utilize the AOL computer check it shows that I have this issue : Your hard disk is over 85% full. I click on "fix it for me" and the green check mark shows as "fixed". Immediately I click on computer check again and the same message appears that my hard disk is over 85% full. -------------------- It's a bug. It shows me the same thing and I have a new computer with nearly an empty HD. I just mark for that particular problem NOT to be reported again. Sharon

Thanks Tigger Tigger- This list is for ALL AOL users who have issues getting AOL to work to make your experience in using RootsWeb more efficient--and it DOES help when you identify your location--because very often the answers to any problems ARE location-oriented. That doesn't mean all of us will the answers--but hopefully someone else in a similar situation on the list will be able to assist in resolving your problems. It is a peer to peer support group. 1. Re Connections
    2. Thanks for that Vanette. I'm UK based and find that my system starts disconnecting itself whenever the payment plan is getting old. Curiously AOL have just started promoting GOLD band whilst I remain firmly with silver for cost purposes and my system is starting to disconnect itself. Would the list owner be kind enough to confirm if the list is for UK users as well as US. Thanks Tigger

    1. Re: [AOL-RW] change plan
    2. Gerri, I'm not sure if this is accurate information, but last year AOL called me and asked me if I wanted to change to an AOL cable connection. I chose to stay with dial-up because they were offering it for $55 a month and I couldn't afford that on a Senior Citizen's income. But from what I could understand about the explanation, AOL offers it's OWN cable connection which is separate from Time Warner cable or fuse.net cable (which is cinci.rr.com). Could that be where the misunderstanding comes from? Maybe you need to call them again and ask that specific question. Is the service free ONLY if they come out to your house and install an AOL cable connection? Is it because you're using a Time Warner cable connection the reason they're still charging you? The only reason I say this is because my daughter and her family lived with me for 6 months last summer while they were waiting to move into a new house, and they had Time Warner cable installed for the TV's but they had a different cable installed for their computers (fusenet for cinci.rr.com). I'm just a neophyte with all this stuff so I may not know what I'm talking about. Marilyn --------------------original message--------------------- In a message dated 8/16/2006 3:36:52 A.M. But I am on high speed time warner cable , and they are charing me for A O L . and if I drop the aol with cable , then I loose my highspeed ... this is a mixed up thing for me .... I have no clue what to do ... maybe go back to dial up and pay 9 95... for a o l .... help gerri

    1. Disconnections, AOL freezes, etc.
    2. Thanks to all for the many tips and suggestions. I'm printing them out right now. It's good to know I'm not alone, at least. But I want to share with you the latest trick. My grandson left me a sticky note from the wee hours of the morning saying AOL had deleted itself! Just prior to doing so, the message said it was outdated. I'm running 9.0 Optimized SE. Sure enough, it was GONE but I had it on my external backup HD and that's the only reason I'm able to be here to write this at all. Running AOL computer checkup and PCPitstop will be my next moves, to rule out a virus. Vanette

    1. AOL Computer Check Question
    2. Sharon, You mentioned using the AOL computer check and that brings this to mind. Whenever I utilize the AOL computer check it shows that I have this issue : Your hard disk is over 85% full. I click on "fix it for me" and the green check mark shows as "fixed". Immediately I click on computer check again and the same message appears that my hard disk is over 85% full. Any ideas? I have a new HP Pavilion with Windows XP, and AOL 9.0 Optimized. Hard drive shows as 162 GB free space. Thanks for all the great informative answers. They teach me something everyday. Sandy
