I received this group of email, with this subject line 3 hours after it was posted. I'm receiving mail today, (Tuesday) from the LIST-UPDATE list, that was posted on Sat. and Sun. That certainly is annoying. At least when you don't receive the message, there is a good chance it will come later. I am so glad I have this list through all of this to help keep what is left of my sanity. What this indicates is that they received the email "envelope" but never received the message inside. There were no doubt temporary transmission issues. Seems to be fixed now. Joan

Thank you for the suggestions, Sharon. I will try them this evening. I do have another question on this. Where is the Windows XP firewall located? And, will it work with ZoneAlarm if I get that working again? I think I will start with the third suggestion and do the Add/Remove Program and then reinstall a new ZA. I am learning alot just from reading all the qestions and answers. Liz

After trying a restore the tech decided it had to be the ZoneAlarm firewall and had me disconnect that. That has solved the problem of staying on AOL but now I don't have a firewall. What is a better solution? Or there a firewall that will "play nice" with AOL? I use Norton AntiVirus and have not activated the McAffee features of AOL. Thank you for any suggestions. Liz My problem is AOL 9.0 security Edition, McAffee firewall, and Quick Links III fax on a Computer with Windows ME . It's funny that we're having very similar problems tho<G>. I agree I want something to play nice with my AOL. And anyone know where to get QuickLinksIII software to replace what disappeared????? Sharonmc2002

Thank you for any suggestions. ---------------------- Liz, A better solution could be one of two things: 1) Download the AOL 9.0 Security Edition SE to update your AOL program. Activate the McAfee firewall and other security programs therein. 2) Activate the windows XP firewall. This ONLY is a wall against incoming programs and won't stop your current programs that reside on your computer from 'calling home', as it were. But it's better than nothing. 3) (Obviously a third thought has struck!) You can try uninstalling the ZA program you have thru the Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel. Then Download a NEW ZA program on the outside chance the one you got is corrupted. I run ZA regularly and it has seldom caused problems in more than 5 years. (Problems it did have were due to testing buggy programs!) I am copying this response to your private email addy as well as the list, because the list is apparently still not working right.... I have sent several emails from my AOL address and I have found only a couple that went to Rootsweb addresses. Others are being returned...I have eliminated the 'L' to the addressee. Virgene (GEN-NEWBIE is one that is not going through)

But I'm with AOL in the UK - does that make a difference ? Paul Gaskell Paul- I don't THINK so but I can't say with any authority if that is true or not. It might actually be more a factor of what lists you subscribe to and whether you are actually certain you ARE receiving all list mail. It never stopped completely and could be deceiving unless you checked archives to see if you missed some of the mail. It only caused a problem with mail for lists on the new lists9 server which primarily involves lists starting with A to C. I subscribed to the new LIST-UPDATE list for info about the changeover to the new software and that list is on the new server and gets LOTS of mail. For example: one day I received 17 messages from the list but when I checked the archives there were 77 messages in there for that day--so I'd missed 60 of them. But had I not checked I might have thought the 17 were all that were posted to that list. Joan

His response was that it was not my fault. I told him I already knew that. That it has happened every time RootsWeb changed services. That many people felt forced to get other than AOL addresses so they could receive their mail. Then asked if I could read him a paragraph concerning this loss of mail. He said yes. So I read him the entire Help Desk paragraph. When I was through he said he would and that he did send a report on it. I hope you receive this letter and much thanks for all you do! Jeannie :) Jeannie, Trails hasn't changed over yet. We're still on the old server Sharon
Has anyone had a problem with the firewall preventing AOL from loading or dialing in? Aol security updated my software and now I can't even get in on the desktop. When I go to get the firewall started it freezes up and then shuts down. Any ideas???? And now my fax software has went down too. Think there is a connection? sharonmc2002
