Has anyone else found these problems. Regards JUDY ELKINGTON Judy- If you are correctly subbed to the list in L mode you should be receiving all posts from the list. What list is this--and are you sure the list has moved to the new system? Also, have you checked the list archives to be sure you actually ARE missing messages that have been posted to the list? If so, you need to next look at your mail controls and filters to be SURE you are not blocking ANY mail coming from list posters. I answered the question on another list as to how AOLers can be sure they are setting their filters to work with RootsWeb lists and this is what I wrote: Under the Mail link on the AOL toolbar > block unwanted mail > sender filter > Use a custom sender list > Two choices: block all mail from senders and domains listed below, or allow only the senders and domains listed below. They can't use the option to block all mail except the senders and addresses below with RootsWeb lists but they can use the block all mail from senders and domains listed below. The choices are: Allow mail from all senders Allow mail only from AOL members Allow mail only from people I know Block mail from all senders Use a custom sender list Of the above, the only choices that work with RootsWeb lists are allow mail from all senders and Use a custom sender list. If they use a custom sender list they can ONLY block addresses of people who are NOT posters to their subscribed lists! With a custom sender list the choices are: blocked mail should be: permanently deleted delivered to spam folder RootsWeb list users should always choose to have a spam folder so that they can check for misdirected list mail and click THIS IS NOT SPAM to move it to their inbox if they find any. Are you on a phone connection or cable? You can't fax on a cable line--you have to be on a phone line and you would need to have fax capability installed on your computer. Joan

To say the least it is proving very awkward. Sometimes things arrive in my Spam File if they have the heading Elkington but they seem to be odd messages from Rootsweb themselves. I do not use Outlook Express of any other medium and have found this quite satisfactory so far. Can anyone suggest what I might do next. Regards JUDY ELKINGTON Judy- Have you tried putting the list address in your address book? Remember that the list address no longer has -L as a part of the list name. Do you mean you are not receiving the posts to the list or only admin notices for the list or both? Once AOL quit blocking lists9 the mail started to flow nicely so it is not an AOL block causing your problem. Joan

Hi Sharon > The AOL free anti-virus program is a full version of McAfee. Identical to one that you can go out and buy in any store that sells computer programs. It updates itself regularly and I can highly recommend it as effective. I'm not sure that the offerings of AOL are the same in all countries. I might be wrong, but I guess that you're in the US ? The position in the UK is that :- 1. the McAfee anti-virus program is offered without extra charge to those who take AOL Broadband Platinum and AOL Broadband Gold. 2. the McAfee anti-virus program is offered to those who take AOL Broadband Silver on payment of an additional monthly fee. 3. the McAfee anti-virus program is not offered to those who take AOL on a dial-up connection. I hop that clarifies matters. Carmelita, I just click on it several times; sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Then the usual block where you would normally sign in is behind it and sometimes you just have to wait...I think it's a glitch that will probably be cleared up by AOL eventually. Sounds weird and a bit bothersome, but it *does* work. Just keep clicking. Just now in the lower right corner a white screen popped up and said "Your anti-virus has been updated". Lloyd, I had a Windows firewall running and didn't know it until I began checking in the Control panel. I clicked on the Firewall icon and it showed that it was "on". So yes, I did have that. The Norton AntiVirus 2005 had been removed automatically when I was downloading and installing the 2006 version of Norton. So I really only had a firewall. I had installed the Norton from a disk, but since it would not activate, I had no antivirus protection at the time I was installing AOL's version. The installation of the AOL Safety and Security Center did the rest. I don't know how, but it is there and I have to sign in each time prior to clicking on the AOL icon and signing in again. The Security Center has a box asking for user name and password. Hope this helps Virgene In a message dated 8/30/2006 3:43:54 P.M. I *think* in trying to find an answer I also read that Kaspersky's website mentioned AOL's security in a favorable light. My suggestion is to go to the AOL Safety and Security center and follow the directions. Sharon suggested this to me last night and it was done almost immediately. If I understood the instructions, *anyone* can. Good luck Virgene Did you have a Firewall and Anti-Virus running while downloading AOL's Safety & Security Center. If you did, please tell me how. I have tried twice while running Zone Alarm and Avanta and they blocked AOL's S&S from loading or something. I got an error message when the download finished and I could not find the download on my computer. Lloyd

Do you think it is safe to spend over a hour online downloading S&S Center with no firewall and anti-virus protection? Lloyd Lloyd, Is it safe? Well, I don't know, but you should certainly run the AV and anti-spyware programs immediately after they are installed! However, you really don't have any choice about turning off both your AV and ZA while you download. I, personally, would feel comfortable with it, but I would also plan to do a full scan of my machine immediately after. Sharon

You do need to turn off Zone alarm when you download and install the Safety and Security Center. If you already have an Anti-Virus program that you are happy with, then why download another one? They will only have conflict and cause you trouble! If you are not happy with Avast AV then uninstall it first, shut off ZA and download the AOL S & S Center and install it. You can turn off the firewall on that and use ZA if you want. If you are happy with how your computer is protected now with ZA and Avast, then if I were you, I'd not download the S&S Center at all. You can simply add a couple of good anti-spyware programs for free and be done. Sharon I am having problems with Zone Alarm blocking web pages even though I have ZA set to accept them.
