    1. Re: [AOL-RW] connectivity problems
    2. Hello! I've been enjoying everyone's comments on the connectivity problems but am sad to see that a lot of us have the same problems. I've been quite busy lately and to respond to each persons comments individually would be a bit time consuming, so I've done the ol copy/paste and will add my 2 cents worth in this one email. I have PC-cillin Internet Security 2006. Where would i find and recheck the program settings? When I click on 'Network Security' then 'Personal Firewall', it only gives me options on what type of security I want/need: Direct Connection, Home Network, Office Network and Wireless Network. For some reason, I cannot locate where I would check the AOL files. I also get booted offline a few times a night and 8 out of 10 times it will restart, which isnt too bad I guess. It's just frustrating to have to sit and wait till it reconnects me. I have Charter Cable for dsl/broadband and when I do finally get signed on, each and every time, aol, at the top of the screen IMMEDIATELY says: 'Not responding'. This happens a few times per session that I am online also. Theres nothing worse than to try to send an email or get into a website, get the 'not responding' and have to sit and wait and wait and wait. The UK is having similar problems? YIKES!!!! That alone tells me for sure its an AOL problem like I suspected and not with Charter. It could be that the slow downs getting anywhere online is due to the amount of people online at the same time I am online. That only used to happen to me around 10pm every night when I figured that people were checking their email before going to bed, BUT, that was when I was using dialup about 3 yrs ago. It kind of makes me wonder what I am paying for. I thought it was for the speed but I'm not seeing any still after doing all those '1 click fixes'. I have tried calling AOL but each of the 15 or so tries since this has started, I keep getting India. Sorry, but I don't want to talk to anyone over there as I cant understand them and they have given me some very VERY incorrect instructions/directions on a problem I had in the past. I refuse to talk to them. Maybe I will try again tonight and see what someone over here has to say....... 'good news film at 10?'. I'll post again if I get any decent answers! I've noticed that every once is a while it may take a few seconds longer to get on, but its not that bad. However, I do get booted off occasionally but AOL restarts me right away. It seems like it happens in the evening between 6-10:30 pm. I dont think this is just a problem for the listers in America, because i have similar problems here in the UK however not as severe as the original poster. I am on mac aol 10 When signing on regular dsl my aol software crashes within a few minutes. I have no problems accessing aol thru safari. Anybody know what is happening? Any suggestions? It seems like it happens in the evening between 6-10:30 pm. Here in California I find the slowest time is in the morning. By evening it is much faster, so I can only conclude it is the number of people logged on that causes the slowdown. Once almost everyone is asleep - except for those of us on the west coast - things are as they have always been. This isn't new since the reduction in rates and the free access though, it has been this way for most of this year. Barbara San Francisco Bay Area I'm also having problems. I get a (Not Responding) notice at the top of my AOL window at least half a dozen times a day -- sometimes more. ~~~ The more I learn about terrorism, the more I understand the phone company~~~

    2. it may be because ver.10 is getting ready to come out, but when all the previous versions came out, i never had this problem and i've been 'around' since version 3! i think there is more to the problem than another update. i wonder if/when 10 does come out, how we go about saving our emails that we saved on aol and our favorite places without losing them. i remember having to make a copy of 'media' folder and renaming it to something else then moving it into the newest version of aol's folder to keep all my favorite places, but i'm going to be a bit leary about the emails i've saved on aol. Lord, if i lose those, hell hath no fury like a woman who loses her saved emails! LOL! julee In a message dated 9/14/2006 1:48:45 P.M. 2. I believe they have multiple versions because when I changed from 25.90 to 9.95 I was told the only difference for basic dialup was the price and both were unlimited. Highspeed essentials is 10 hrs. Go to you help /accounts billing plans to see what it is in your area. It all depends upon which version is chosen. sharonmc2002 I agree that the new program is 10 hours of dial-up. The info is a little misleading. Close to the top of the write-up it says you have unlimited dial-up. But scroll to closer to the end and it says 10 hours after which it will be $2.95 per hour with a maximum of $100.00. 1. Re: [AOL-RW] Where do I go to fight a bill
    2. Joan, You could be right. Here is what happened. When I got here to my sisters house and signed in the first time a message came up telling me that there would me a $2.95/hr charge and to get more information to enter keyword billing. When I entered billling into keyword I got a message that you can't view keywords when signed in as guest. I then had my sister sign in and then I went to keyword billing and read up using dial up away from home. It said that their was a $34.95 limit per month (didn't say anything about this being contingent on which service you were signed up for). So not knowing that the max only pertained to those that were on dial up service and not 'bring your own internet', I decided that I would pay the $34.95 per month instead of having to get cleaned up and driving about 10 miles to my sister's college and using their internet access (this is what I did last year when I visited her). Had I know that I would be charged for every minute I was on the internet I would have used dialup some and driven out to the college for most of my interent usage. I am now paying $9.95 for my high speed connection and get unlimited dailup access with it. Before I was paying $14.95 for my high speed connection and not getting any dialup access. Don't know how I can pay $5 less per month and get a better deal? Thanks, Dave

    1. Re: [AOL-RW] Where do I go to fight a bill
    2. Dave Do not let AOL give you the runaround. Do NOT depend on them to solve this. # 1 Make absolutely sure that your credit card Company has your correct Home PH # so they can contact you as to any questionable charges to your Card. I learned this the hard way. However, Privacy Guard tried 5 times to charge my Visa and my Company could not get hold of me because I had not updated my Ph # w/them and my Visa company never would pay the charge. Talk to your Credit card Company to tell them this was unauthorized by you. They can certainly see by your previous AOL bills that this was a sudden change. As far as talking yourself to AOL you can do it. Just refuse to tell billing what help you want. Keep insisting you want to talk to that person's supervisor. That you will tell the supervisor. I managed to get to the supervisor's supervisor and solved the problem. Once you tell them what you want they will sideline you as they have already done. The answer you got was totally unacceptable. My charges were to have been 2.95 a minute with a max of 34.95 per month. AOL forgot about the max and just charged me $600.00 + for one month. I called and had my plan changed from $14.95 bring your own internet without any dial up hours to $9.95 bring your own internet and unlimited dail up hours. At least that is how their CSR explained things to me. She told me she would send a message to their complaint billing department to see if she could get me a refund for last month and this month (charge is already up to $140.00). She said that there was no way she could transfer me to this department so that i could talk with them. She said that if they were to give me a refund it would take about 10 days and I would see it on my credit card. If I didn't see it on my credit card than the refund wasn't approved. Does anyone have any phone numbers, names, extensions, etc that I could use to follow up on this if the refund isn't approved?
