Judy, This is different than a delay. I, too, have gotten this notice saying that AOL is not accepting outgoing mail. It generally means they are having technical difficulties. If you try again later it usually goes with no trouble. Sharon -------------------------------- In a message dated 7/27/2008 12:46:03 P.M. Judy, I seriously doubt that AOL is *withholding* letters. It may be that they are experiencing some delays in delivery. I have had some delayed mail both going and coming in the past few weeks. One in particular took over 2 hours to arrive in the lists archives. I didn't check the full headers to see where the delay originated from, however. I don't think that this is something that has to be either your fault OR a purposed pattern from AOL. I think that one or more of their servers may be having a little trouble and when a particular piece of mail uses that server, it may experience delays. Hi Judy :) I have 9.0 SE Edition. Ever since AOL changed to web welcome screen I have had a problem w/it continually. Every so often I sign on and the old welcome screen comes up. I would not mind that but when it does cannot get on the web, and no letters w/embedded images will fill. That I definitely do not like. Also at times the web welcome screen comes up w/no filling ability. A month or two ago I contacted AOL techs. Had no clue why the old one would come up. Thus have tried to analyze it on my own. This is what I believe. The web welcome screen has a lot of advertising on it. I have come to believe that when one ad (especially the big moving ones) will not complete filling the old screen comes up. Also I believe that is same problem w/the non filling web screen. Can do my mail box thing but again no letters w/embedded images will fill. I also have noticed that when the old one comes up the Adv on my address book not filled. I have two computers. One big one and one 6/month old quality lap top. Does same thing on both. My lap top just does it faster. LOL I also have noticed that if I sign on when AOL Spyware protection is working the old screen comes up. Also AOL is sending an occasional Pop Up. That always brings up the old screen. When the old one comes up or the new one non filling one comes up I have learned to X out AOL and bring it up again. That almost always takes care of the problem. When I change screen names sometimes old and sometime new. The bottom line is that I blame AOL Adv on the web screen. Jeannie :) In a message dated 7/27/2008 10:52:30 A.M. However!!- I can switch screen name to any others, immediately switch BACK to the Master Screen Name, and magically the OLD Welcome Screen returns. I swear - LOL. I'll try to grab a print screen for the "new" Welcome Screen the next time it happens. The new one has at top-left, 3 buttons-- Mail Center is first. Clicking Mail Center gives ANOTHER Window and then you can click to read new mail. Both windows have a bunch of other stuff, of course. On the new Welcome, there is NO box-outline around the News area. Instead it has < or > fancy buttons to scroll through the "news" screens. By comparison, the OLD Welcome has a box-outline around the News area, then says 1/6 (screens) and the black < then double-vertical lines then > to scroll to each screen. On the OLD screen, top-right, it has 4 graphics for Mail, Weather, AOL Radio, Video. On the NEW screen, top-right, it has a blank area with a link for Change Location (or some such wording)-- I guess for your home town so you can see the weather. That's about all I remember of the New one. What's weird is, I've made NO change to my choice of Welcome Screen. And, it returns immediately to the OLD screen as soon as I switch to any other name, then switch back. Anyone else? By the way, this NEW Welcome screen stinks, IMO. Jeannie- If your daughter received any noticed that her email couldn't be delivered it should be a bounce notice. Bounce notices generally give a REASON for the bounce and that is why we'd need to see the bounce to know the reason given for either your her ISP not sending the mail through to you on AOL or AOL refusing to accept it. You don't seem to be having any problem with mail to/from THIS list. I can't say about problems between Yahoo lists AOL although I subscribe to several "dog" lists on Yahoo and never have a problem receiving mail from those lists--some in plain text, some that have HTML and attachments--I get them all and timely. One or two of my Yahoo lists are moderated and that means no one gets the messages until the moderator approves them--so maybe this is what is happening? In that case they WOULD all arrive at once and not timely--after the moderator approves them. Joan In a message dated 7/27/2008 1:26:29 P.M. I do not know if she in that program has a bounce notice. Because I was already having some sort of mail problem it was just one more. I never did receive that letter. She is AOL but uses a mail program because AOL is so slow loading in her area. It is IncrediMail the same program I posted on this list a warning about using it. It lost me all the letters in my main screen name. But she gets along just fine w/no problems. I will ask her about a bounce, but if she did get one probably deleted it right then. She very rarely keeps anything in her mail box. Will write to her but she has her 2 year old grandbaby on a visit until Tuesday. I try not to bother when this happens once a month. When I contacted AOL tech two days ago I expected to be told to re-install AOL. But I would resist that because is same on lap top as on my office computer. So it cannot be a corrupted AOL problem. I found this by Googling the words MAC+task manager On this website: http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-146805.html (posted by) TrumanApple quoted stridey's post on Aug 31, 2005, 12:27 PM (Begin quoted material) In windows, you can press Control + Alt + Delete to bring up a task manager that says exactly what programs are hogging what portion of your RAM. I was wondering how i could do the same in OS X tiger. I have a rev A 1.42ghz mini with 1gb of ram and average around 250-300 in free ram... that means that i am using like 750 mbs or so of ram constantly. I want to know where this is going. For instance, right now i have safari, mail, adium, and finder open and have 300 mb of free ram, meaning 724 used or so. Where is this RAM going. PS: i coudlnt be happier with the performance of this machine, but would never reccommend anyone running under 1gb (all users that is). The answer given was:: /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app is what you want. :) (End quoted material) On 7/26/08, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: > > In a message dated 7/26/08 8:44:22 AM, [email protected] writes: > > > > Also, depending on your installation choices (and some are not chosen > > by the user but are "forced" upon us), you may have various AOL > > components loading at Start-Up. Ema, It's a known problem. You can only be patient and try not to ask for things to be done too quickly. When it happens, all you can do is wait it out. Don't keep clicking your mouse during those times, it will only make it worse. The program is trying to catch up with your commands.
