Dear List, Got a new computer today. Faster/Better. We have dial-up and cant' get it to dial out. I have configured the internet settings trying to get it to dial the ISP so I can go to aol.com and download AOL software to get the mail. What am I doing wrong? OH -- and I have 2 computers on the same phone line. To use #1, I have to unplug the new computer #2 from the phone line--did not have to do that with the old #2. Any Suggestions. Thanks, [email protected]

If you are in a state of disagreement with a company, e.g. AOL customer services or taking an example from another list SAGA insurance has not repaired your car to your satisfaction, then you can refer the matter on to an ombudsman rather like ACAS in an industrial dispute. Sometimes to stop both sides jumping the gun, the ombudsman asks that the company supplies the consumer with a "deadlock" code to show that they agree that they cannot come to an agreement between themselves and require conciliation services to move forward. By withholding the deadlock code after they have agreed to disagree with you AOL are in fact breaching the agreement and it will take a number of customers pointing this out to jump start the ombudsman into getting AOL to do what it has agreed formally to do. Look at the complaints procedure on the AOL help page, you may need the UK version, and you find the procedure outlined outlined there. Tigger

Go through the hoops of the complaints procedure by email then take your complaint to the obudsman listed in the procedures. If enough people tell them AOL won't give the deadlock password perhaps they will get the will get the message! Tigger

AOLs header section (blue) made it harder to copy. It won't highlight the word "subject" but it will if you start with the first letter of first word in the subject. I also go through the Notepad copied version & take out all the spaces AOL has & the empty CC: and BCC: lines. Delete the footers/signatures/ad stuff too. Saves on printing. Hi Julee, I use both Yahoo and Hotmail for storing important information that I eMail to my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts from my AOL account. I've never have had a problem with either Yahoo or Hotmail deleting old eMail from any of the folders that I set up. However, there have been times, when the eMail I sent did not arrive immediately at Yahoo or Hotmail, but never not at both. I wait until the next day, and check to see if I have to re-send the eMail from AOL to either Yahoo or Hotmail. I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Hi Julee, For years I have copied and pasted what I wanted to keep into new files and saved them on my PC or on a floppy. That way, I have them at home. Saving a backup elsewhere is a good idea too. I use gmail for that. By doing it on my puter I only save the parts of the email that interest me along with the posters addy and the date. - It's easy to print from here too. Ok, I need to verify this with anyone who has used yahoo for email. I use it to store emails that I get on aol that I want to keep for a very long time (such as genealogy notes). I have folders set up and when I go through my yahoo mail, if its something I want to keep forever, I automatically move it in the appropriate folder. Yahoo doesn't delete old email from folders, does it, does anyone know for sure? I used to use gmail and would 'tag' the emails accordingly. While deleting a bunch of junk email, I was looking at the subject and accidentally deleted mail I wanted to keep from some lists. To me, unless you're paying close attention to each and every email while clearing out the junk, it was just too easy to delete the important stuff. Maybe I dont know enough about the capabilities that gmail has, I don't know. Julee In a message dated 8/19/2008 12:57:06 A.M.
