Joan So I am safe because I am in Digest. LooooL. great ...Thanks... I was also in Digest form on another list and quit because I was asked to unblock some people who were annoying me off list. Take Care Ema From: [email protected] Subject: Re: [AOL-RW] Blocked To: [email protected] If you block mail from email addresses that post to RootsWeb lists--yes, you could get yourself unsubbed. If you sub to those lists in digest mode you won't have that problem because the digests come from the list address. In the case mentioned below the address being blocked WAS the list address and the subscriber was subbed to the digests--so nothing I could do but unsub the person--they clearly were blocking mail FROM the list and not just another individual. If it is an individual I warn the person to adjust their filters and only if they don't do that, will I unsub them. Joan **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. It aggravated me at first but the good thing about this, you do not have to remember your sign on name and password. I think that is a plus. Just fill in who you are searching for and you are on your way. Marilyn Elmira, NY _______________________________ In a message dated 9/2/2008 12:21:16 P.M. I was actually wondering if this might be referring to a MyFamily tree that someone sent an invitation to "join." If you do -- then you WILL get email notices and I'm not sure how you get removed from those. There should be removal instructions IN the email though. It is now required that removal/unsub instructions be included in this type of email -- as an anti-spam requirement. Joan In a message dated 9/2/2008 1:22:04 P.M. I don't want them. Worse, his family tree loads every time I go to ancestry. I've asked him to remove me but he doesn't. What can I do? === Pat & List, I looked for a better answer and found a little help. On Ancestry Home Page, at the BOTTOM RIGHT there is a link "Customize this page". >From there, you can MOVE the various boxes around --- example, move My Trees from the top to all the way to the bottom (or somewhere in-between). At least you won't have to SEE it every time because it will be below the page "fold" so to speak. Your search box would be at the top. There's a link at the top to this: How can I customize my home page? (quoted)You can rearrange the sections on your home page by clicking the "Customize this page" button at the bottom right of the page. Move the sections up and down by dragging them to the desired location or by using the up and down arrows. When you are finished, click "Save changes". How can I access my older Online Family Trees or People I'm Looking For? members who have Online Family trees or People I'm Looking For can find links to these sections at the bottom–right corner of the home page under Other Links. (end quote) Maybe go through "people I'm looking for" and delete the surname you share with the other guy. There has got to be a way to UN-link from someone's tree! If all else fails, call them. Judy

I have Ancestry in my Favorites twice. One click takes me to the general search page but, since I am doing a lot of English research in the 1851 census at the moment, I have another Favorite that takes me directly to the 1851 search screen. I have not had Ancestry direct me to anywhere other than these places when I use these Favorites. So, I suggest you get to the page you would like as your opening page on Ancestry, and make that your Favorite. One click and you should be there. Mail that goes in your spam folder automatically isn't bouncing back to the sender--this is as the result of a blocked address in the custom sender filter. Maybe I misunderstood the original question... I thought the poster was asking about how to control his/her Ancestry account -- that someone made an "invite" to a family tree (on Ancestry... NOT on MyFamily website) and that the invite has now interferred with the person's enjoyment of ANCESTRY's website. Did I incorrecly read the question? I went all through Ancestry's help pages about inviting someone to a family tree... BUT I found nothing about how an "invitee" can opt out. I've never invited anyone, so I don't know how it works. On the MyFamily side.... It's almost impossible to get off the email. I was invited to "Site A" on MyFamily but this year, the "owner" did not renew. But the mail keeps on coming. So, here's what I did. Sign onto the person's site. Go to your Account Settings or Preferences... and tell it NO mail. Solved my problem with that defunct MyFamily "Site A" website. Again, if I misunderstood the post, I'm sorry. But I did not think the poster was asking about any kind of a "List" emails. And, blocking any type of mails doesn't mean the person will "get the hint". That only works if it is a private sender emailing you--- but not if you are getting notifications from a site. First, you can block that person's email address...maybe he/she will get the hint. As for someone else's family tree loading when you log on to Ancestry, I have the same problem, and no one in that particular family tree is in my database. I still haven't solved that annoying problem. The best suggestion I have is to email/call Ancestry and enlist their help.
