This could be because of using IE. If you are using the free McAfee A/V that AOL offers it may not be configured to check IE -- it may only be set to protect against viruses hitting AOL's mail program. What you were doing at the time you first ran into the virus may not be the cause. Joan In a message dated 9/9/2008 7:35:16 A.M. Judy, The Quick Read has been around for a long time! To hide it click on the arrows between the Quick Read pane and the list of mail. They are pretty tiny............ The other day, my virus detector showed these juicy little tidbits that it found on my pc. Needless to say, it really shook me up to see that it had found a trojan virus, but that was taken care of. What really bothers me now is that what it also found mentions 'aol instant messenger'! I very very seldom use IM and wonder if anyone knows how and why this happened. The only site I've downloaded anything from was an updated version of software for a kodak camera, but that was directly from their web site. Thanks in advance for the help, comments or suggestions! Yes Gerri, I correspond with a Stylist but the email is different than the one you sent me, \However I never go to blogs as I have no intentions of doing so. I still don't know any more than I did about the question I ask so I guess I will grin and bear it until I change t another company. Tricia- Whether or not these get stuck in your spam folder or arrive in your inbox--if they are not an OFFICIAL AOL email -- report them as spam. You can tell by the "envelope" they arrive in--if it isn't the official AOL email --then it isn't valid. And as Gerri pointed out --even if you suspect it MIGHT be valid (which it most likely is NOT) don't reply or click on anything in the email -- call AOL directly instead. Tricia ........... My rule of thumb is .............. If I receive an email saying something is wrong with as Example AOL ? or even with a credit card or a phone call from someone saying that something wrong w/anything that concerns my accounts I Call the company myself and Ask , is there a problem w/my account ? Of course they are going to say No ....... and they will tell You do not even open those mails or give any information over the phone ........ I am very cautious with whom I talk to on the phone , and also Inquiring emails that want you to verify My personal Information ...... I have been w/ AOL for over 10 years and it has only gotten better over the years ....... Just my 2 cents about your mail, it is Spam and treat it as such . Hi Joan I've mentioned this on the list before - there are some AOL "benefits" available to customers in the US that aren't available to UK AOLers. This has been the situation since AOL sold its UK operation to a UK company called the Carphone Warehouse. If I remember rightly, there is some free security or anti-virus software available to US AOLers that we can't get in the UK - and if we try to go to the relevant AOL page, we get precisely the message that Tricia describes. Hence, on this occasion, I don't think that Tricia need worry if she is in the UK. Best wishes.
