    1. Re: [AOL-RW] Problem with AOL
    2. I have no idea if the spam filter problem hit ALL AOLers or only SOME of us--but this was very noticeable today. I normally find about 12-20 emails in my spam folder each morning when I first logon and a few that slip through into my inbox. This morning and throughout the afternoon (until just now) ALL spams came to the inbox and NONE went to the spam folder--so something was definitely amiss. Joan In a message dated 10/3/2008 4:21:42 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Joan, My Spam folder only had 1 message in it this morning. Shortly thereafter it had 3 more. However I had several spam emails in my inbox. In fact, lately the increase of spam in my inbox is significant. Sharon **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. 1. Re: [AOL-RW] email problems.
    2. Patricia, Are you using the FORWARD or the REPLY?? AOL's Forward feature is quirky beyond belief. I never use it. If you are actually using the Forward feature, try using the Reply feature instead. 1) Highlight what you want to send to her from the email you have received from another person. 2) Click on the Reply. 3) Next Highlight the email address in the TO: field and replace it with her email address instead. 4) THEN send it. If your friend was on AOL, then the Forward feature would work great. Sharon -------------------------------------- In a message dated 10/3/2008 12:58:47 P.M. If I send her and original email, it goes through...no problem. If I get a message from someone else and try to forward it to her, it comes back every time. If she sends me a message and I click on reply to answer her, the message also comes back to me. So the only email she can receive or send are just when we open an original form and send a message. 2. Patricia- This sounds like some spam setting she's set on her end--but I'd need to see a copy of the bounce you get back when you try to email her a reply or a forwarded message. The bounce should give a clue to the reason the message isn't being delivered. Joan In a message dated 10/3/2008 12:58:47 P.M. 1. Re: [AOL-RW] Problem with AOL
    2. Jan- I'm not sure why you would get the "image challenge" thing if you were already logged into your AOL account. It sounds as if you were being directed or challenged by Google's CAPTCHA program used by some websites (but I've never seen AOL use it) to verify that a real live PERSON and not a BOT was trying to send the messages. I DO understand that Google's CAPTCHA program was broken yesterday--I overheard the techies at RootsWeb mentioning that. So the problem could have actually been a Google issue that impinged on your AOL capabilities--but I'm not sure why. Joan In a message dated 10/3/2008 12:14:07 P.M. 1. Re: [AOL-RW] Problem with AOL
    2. Hello AOLers! I don't know if their problem is the same as mine was yesterday, but I need to tell all of you what happened to me, just in case anybody has the same problem. I am a computer dealer out of my home, so I sent the following information to my AOL customers: >>Just wanted to let you know that I have been having a problem sending e-mails through my AOL software, as well as going on AOL's web site (_http://www.aol.com/_ (http://www.aol.com/) ) through Internet Explorer, for the last 2 days. I tried to send an e-mail - either in AOL's software or on their web site in Internet Explorer, a pop-up came up from AOL - called an "image challenge". They ask you to click on a link in the box, then that takes you to a web site that asks you to read & type the scrambled letters, then click "OK". I tried this (in my AOL software) and it let me do that once, but I still couldn't send e-mails without getting this "Image Challenge" box again and again. I could send e-mails through my 2nd AOL e-mail address, but not through my main (original) AOL E-Mail address - the one that you first set up, when you installed AOL. Sometimes, I could even send an e-mail to myself or to other people with an AOL e-mail address, but not to people with other Internet Providers than AOL. When I first called AOL, a tech told me they have had many other calls on this same problem and that they thought it was on their server. They told me to wait 12 hours and they should have my problem fixed - well, that didn't happen. I called a 2nd time and still nothing. The 3rd time, I decided to go online with Live Help from AOL. I always seem to have better luck with these techs. The tech had me to NOT use my AOL software and DO NOT go through AOL''s Internet Explorer to try sending an e-mail. BUT, instead, 'for the moment', have my AOL software open, and use this to go to AOL's web site. In other words, within AOL, go to _http://www.aol.com/_ (http://www.aol.com/) , to access my e-mail. Once I was there, when I tried sending an e-mail and the "image challenge" box would come up, I could then click on the link and read and type the scrambled letters and click on "OK". After doing this, I was finally able to send e-mails once again, in all 3 places - within AOL software, in AOL's web site - within AOL and in AOL's web site - through Internet Explorer. So, the only way to get this all working again, was to go to AOL's web site, within AOL's software. Really strange, I know, but it worked! Yeah!<< Hope this may help some of you but hope nobody else has to deal with this crazy problem! But, maybe this idea of going through AOL to get to AOL's web site, might help in other cases, as well, who knows? Have a great day! 2. When a person doesn't RECEIVE mail that we know RootsWeb (or another service) is sending out--it is difficult to know the reason for non-receipt unless there are bounces coming back to the sender. Since the current mailing list software doesn't send bounces to the list admins until/unless 5 days' worth of bounces have past. So I can't tell you whether list mail to you is bouncing and I can't tell you the reason for any bounces or non-receipt of list mail at this time. Joan In a message dated 10/3/2008 10:11:26 A.M.
