I own MACs. I've used both AOL, and a small local ISP. All ISPs have their quirks. AOL works better for me. IMHO: AOL software is written primarily for PCs, because lots more people own PC machines. Then they add some "mouse milk and baling wire", and come up with a version that works on a MAC. It's easier for AOL to keep coming out with add-ons for PCs. <G> Sticking with AOL and MACs Ann ************** New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. However, my family members are PC users. I have seen what AOL does to PCs...it seems to download "stuff" onto their PCs every time they sign off. I have never noticed it, nor have I had any problems with AOL slowing my MACs down. Re: your email addresses - We have had two dial-up AOL accounts, as dial-up acess was all that was available to us, and more than one person cannot get online on one AOL dial-up account. DSL became available to us in August, so I cancelled one AOL account. I can still use AOL web mail to get to the addresses on the cancelled account. I kept the other account just for convenience; AOL is pretty user-friendly, and I'm used to it. I don't particuarly care for webmail. When you get to the Mail and Spam Controls, you will need to click on the Content Filter at the bottom of the window. Make sure that neither of the two filters are selected there. and then be sure to click on SAVE! There is one other place to check and that is in your mail options. The button for that is at the top right-hand side of your Mailbox window. Set mail preferences is the choice you want to select. See if the last box (Hide images and disable links in mail from unknown senders) is checked. If so, then uncheck it. Sharon ---------------------------- In a message dated 10/8/2008 11:09:32 A.M. Thank you, Joan. That fixed the problem. I remember now that when I changed to Juno ISP, I blocked every thing in the Mail and Spam Controls so I would not be getting so much junk and spam mail. Why is that any different from a PC with AOL? Did you find this a problem for your PC? If not, then it shouldn't be a problem with your Mac either. Answers: 1) Yes, you can still keep all of your email addresses 2) You may cancel your AOL subscription either way, telephone or online. 3) Not installing AOL on a Mac is just the opinion of the person at the store. It took up the same amount of space on your PC laptop as it will on your MacBook. Do a little research on your own and then make up your mind based on the conclusions of your research. Do not allow the person at the store to sway your opinion. Sharon ----------------------------- In a message dated 10/7/2008 1:32:18 P.M.
