Sharon, When I get to the sign on settings for 9.0 the three options are: 1. enable fast start 2. Open AOL when I am connected to internet. 3. Automatically sign on with this screen name when I open AOL. The only one that was checked was the first one - enable fast start. Nancy

AOL likes to wrap its tentacles around other programs. My guess is it might have something to do with an added AOL search box or toolbar. I know AOL stuck a search box in the top Firefox toolbar for me. I'm usually logged onto AOL already and just stay there but that has nothing to do with my Firefox connection--but may have something to do with the search box or toolbar. Ema- Firefox won't be the browser that AOL uses as its integrated browser. And actually that is a PLUS--Firefox is opened as a stand-alone program just like you would open any other program on your computer. I know most of us use programs such as MS Word in a separate window open at the same time as AOL or our genealogy program and just toggle back and forth by clicking the program we want to bring to the front in our task bar. That's what you do with Firefox--you can actually be using the AOL browser at the same time you are using Firefox to be visiting different sites (or even the same site). The benefit is that using Firefox which is not connected to your AOL program is that it doesn't overstress AOL--AOL is less likely to crash. Joan In a message dated 10/28/2009 8:15:17 A.M. Joan I use aol so how can I put firefox as the browser that aol uses Ema Mozilla Firefox is the preferred browser these days of about 50% of Internet users because it is much faster and slicker than IE. It doesn't seem to put as much stress on my computer either. You can download it and auto-install it free at the Mozilla Web site. I believe the latest version is 7.0.14 but there is also a 7.5 version that may be out of beta now. Firefox is more secure (and easier to use once you get the hang of it) than IE. Many people feel it is also a safer browser because IE has many exploits that permit malicious code to get to your computer--so many think Firefox is safer to use JOAN Is there a Charge later for the use of it ? Is It Really better than the other ?? Thanks Tom Tem

Re: slow response downloading sites on AOL. Response to above question: Have you performed the usual "Disk Cleanup"? If so, you might try running CCleaner. Yes, I run CCleaner & perform 'disk cleanup' regularly. I also do a scan check on a regular basis. I have everything checked and let it delete all. The worst thing that happens is I have to put my user name in again on a particular site like Ancestry or my bank. There are other cleanup things I use as well so that my computer can stay in reasonable shape. I have no patience for waiting and waiting and waiting. Also, Disk Cleanup is a Windows application - it would not do anything to harm your computer. After cleanup, do the Windows application of disk defragmentation which may take quite awhile. Disk defrag moves chunks of info around so that they are with other like chunks. This also speeds up your computer. If you haven't used either of these processes before, they are going to take awhile. Ruth In a message dated 10/24/2009 10:07:54 A.M.
