Donald's birth certificate shows he was born in Brechin on 8/2/1863. He married in Townsville, Qld, Australia on 1/12/1888. I have been to the National Archives here and found my 2 other Scottish Grandfather (a Stewart) and Great Grandmother (at the time, Haddow) passage out to Australia, however Donald McDonald proved a bit illusive. There are 3 he could be which I have to try to narrow down. Also the transcriptions of the lists is very poor.
