hi folks, was there a minimum age for being served as heir? My ancestor, John Meik, was served as heir to his father in 1713 for lands of Drimmie. His father George Meik died in 1711. I have recently come into some documents that revealed that George Meik married sometime after 1701 and before 1705 to Isabell Nisbet, relict of Thomas Robertson of Dundee. I am wondering if John Meik might have been Isabel's son or a son from a previous [and unknown] marriage of George Meik? In other words, if born after 1703, could John then be served as Heir in 1713? And, I have also found that this/my George Meik was "minister of the gospel at Straiton" [and graduated from St Andrews U. "M A" in 1672]. So, he's the one who owned Drimmie, Forfar for a brief time. James Meik of Ledcassie and Thomas Meik of Marywell, [near Couparangus] were mentioned also in a 1711 document; Thomas Meik was "Tutor and Curator nominate by the deceased Mr George Meik late minister of the gospel at Straiton thereafter heritor of Drimmie to John Meik his eldest son and his other children conform to his nomination... " I would appreciate your thoughts on this...thanks Liz of BC Canada
