For searching the Archives I would suggest she brings a passport photo, a passport and something that shows her address - they she will be issued with a Readers Ticket which she can have for 3 years. Unlike the ScotlandsPeople Centre which you really should book a day seat, the Archives are free and you can come and go as you please between 9am and 4.30pm. However, I would suggest you have a look initially at the online catalogue of the NRS www.nrscotland.gov.uk and see if there is anything relevant for your Mum. I would also suggest a trip in to the Scottish Genealogy Society at Victoria Terrace as their resources are excellent. There is a small charge if you are not a member, but you get access to lots of different resources and sources. You might also try the Guild of One Name Studies online resource www.one-name.org - of which I am the Regional Representative for Scotland-South - as the Guild have members who do a one name study and there may be names that you hadn't thought connected to the family - that might help before your visit. Hope she also has a lovely time. Lorna1320 Edinburgh Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
