Hi Terry, Maybe you have already tried this, but look for the death of Isabel. If this was after 1855 she would be listed under her maiden name. I looked at ScotlandsPeople using Isobel (names that begin with) and M*iles (allow wildcards) with a fairly generous time scale (1855 to 1870) I found 3 results for Angus, 2 of them in Arbirlot. Unfortunately none of them tie in with Cable or Cabel as "other surname" but they might be worth looking at. It seems reasonable to assume she may have reached the age of 55 or so. Other scenarios (that you may already have covered) are David's death at sea, which might be difficult to trace, and the couple emigrating to a country David had visited in his travels. In the case of migration, are there any Cable/Cabel enquiries on the Ancestry boards?
