Nivard: had a relative in the 5th North British Militia. According to an army website, the 5th was: 5th Ross, Sutherland, Shetland and Cromarty Militia and so you have a wide choice of where he may have been recruited!! Gordon Johnson.
Hi Gordon Thanks for that (I think <vbg>) No, really much appreciated, as your mail came in I was searching the Army & Militia lists but nothing early enough I did find a reference to an 1813 Army and Militia list thus :- "The Army list includes lists of officers, a list of the North Britain militia and a list of the Royal Edinburgh Volunteers" although these listings usually only contained officers, the description is ambiguous, most Militia were disbanded in 1802 but were raised again soon after Apart from that I have found little on them, quite a few individuals who served with them on the National Archives but annoyingly no David COOK I will look into it further and come back to you if I find any more on the 5th Thanks again Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) PS it would be ironic if it were the Shetlands and my family were there during WW2 three of my siblings were born there > Nivard: had a relative in the 5th North British Militia.
