** There is a big difference between what is searchable on the NAS website, and what catalogues can be searched FROM the website. My approach to the NAS website is: On the Welcome page, look at the right hand side, headed "I'm looking for", and the first option is: Catalogues and Indexes. Click on that, and you get a page with al the catalogues and indexes that are available. Under "Catalogues available online" you'll find: "search the NAS catalogue". Click on "NAS Catalogue", and that takes you to the start page FOR THAT CATALOGUE. click on SEARCH (top middle of page), and you get the search page with all the options stated quite clearly. The options to search 1. the catalogue 2.Persons 3. Places are not as obvious as appears. It is wise to combine Catalogue with Persons to find all the instances of people's names, so just click off Places, unless ou are searching for a farm name, etc. If you have no particular dates in mind, use start and stop years beyond what you know, in case the name appeared earlier. The "include undated records" is more useful for earlier periods than modern ones. I usually leave the Reference section option blank. Hope this is helpful. Gordon.
Thanks, Gordon - very helpful indeed. That's a very tortuous system they've got there but I've now bookmarked the Search page so won't have [to remember how] to "drill down" each time!! :-) Regards Ray 2009/3/25 Gordon Johnson <gordon@kinhelp.co.uk> > > ** There is a big difference between what is searchable on the NAS website, > and what catalogues can be searched FROM the website. > My approach to the NAS website is: > On the Welcome page, look at the right hand side, headed "I'm looking > for", and the first option is: Catalogues and Indexes. > Click on that, and you get a page with al the catalogues and indexes that > are available.
