The one born 1841 was baptised simply as Joseph, but must have assumed the Mearns middle name, as he appears with it in his obituary (Aberdeen Journal, 27 March 1920, page 6). Married to Jean Baxter, they had 9 children, buty I only have descent from 2 of them (Jane Kydd Coull and Margaret Malcolm Coull).
