The 1881 census lists Thomas Gardiner, cabinet maker, age 35, born Perth at 35 Stirling Street, Dundee with wife Euphemia, 31, born Perth, and children Isabella, Thomas, Margaret, Euphemia, and James. Euphemia's age is given as 5, which means she would have been born in 1875/6. You should be able to get her birth certificate at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk I have noticed that it is very common for ages in the Canadian census to be a year out, so maybe a mistake was made on her gravestone. The International Genealogical Index at www.familysearch.org lists 7 children of Thomas Gardiner and Margaret Clark, all born in Perth between 1841 and 1862. As Thomas and Margaret were evidently both alive in 1861, you should be able to get their death certificates from the same web site. These will tell you who their parents were. The IGI also gives the date of their marriage as 12 June 1840. Unfortunately there is as yet no transcription of the 1841 or 1851 census of Perth at http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl but you should be able to find these census details at Scotland's People too.
