I am a book hound! I recently got confirmation that Andrew Powrie did indeed help build the ship Discovery, in Dundee harbor. His grandson Lord Provost Archibald Powrie was working as a plater in ship building, making the third generation of ship builders, who worked in the docks of Dundee. Another grand daughter wrote to tell me, her mother and aunt still have whale bone Andrew Powrie collected from his voyages, and from other seafaring men he knew. He was a ship's carpenter, and began working on whalers, before he worked in the Panmure Shipyard, Marine Parade, Dundee. A red letter day for me! I've been trying for years to find proof, from a general family story that someone worked on the Discovery. I found photos of it's building of SCRAN. Hi cousin Mary: Hope you are feeling better. Here's a site from Google w/pix on the Discovery http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Discovery%20Dundee&rlz=1W1GPEA_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi To find go to "Discovery Dundee" and go to images. I was always told that one of my grandmother's grandfather's was a ship captain. Had to be John Powrie, since the other (DAVIES) I know to have worked in the mills in the middle of England, while John was in Dundee. They are part of the salmon fishers that you told me about so many years ago.
