thanks Anne, of course! had forgotten to look at the SR birth cert details...found out that MARY BAXTER who married John Spink Nicoll was actually born MARY BAXTER NICOLL! so I found their children-- guess they were first cousins, I believe so. also: the James Chalmers-Jean Reid marriage of Deskford, Banff in 1752 altho rather flimsy evidence [based on dates] for being the parents of JEAN CHALMERS who married THOMAS NICOLL 1785 Dundee, had some further clues --James Chalmers and Jean Reid had 5 children: one son, JOHN, "designed" after first JOHN CHALMERS of "MONTROSE" and then a dau, Elizabeth, after ELIZABETH CARMICHAL who married John Chalmers of Montrose. Am wondering if some of the Chalmers from Cullen and Deskford, migrated to Angus...nearer some other family members. BtW James Chalmers was "blacksmith of Cullen' for many of those records. Your advice to find the death of JAMES CHALMERS at Dundee? was a good one altho there were 15 such deaths in a few years...too many to search.
