To reply to a message from the Gateway, you *must* use the Message Board to be sure that the person you are trying to write to sees it. They may be a member of this List too but there is no guarantee. AS people use nicknames or aliases on the Boards, you can't second guess this one. I suggest you bite the bullet and send your message, above, to the Board where you'll be sure Rootsweb will alert them to your response. Here is my view of the Boards and the plus points, such as they are: If you register for the Rootsweb Message Boards, a cookie is set up in your browser so that future access to the MB will know who you are, by your chosen alias. You only have to click on the link in the body of the Gatewayed message to get to the relevant thread when you can then reply. Your alias is picked up from the cookie [or at least it was when I used it]. Incidentally using the MB also gives you the history of the item if it is part of a longer thread. This can be a plus point if you want to see who else has joined in and does make doing it this way worth while in many cases. Personally I would prefer it if everyone used the Lists or if the List was reflected back to the MBs but, as Gavin said, the current method was voted for so we are stuck with it. Aliases do become familiar. Gavin's is "gbell" and Anne Burgess's is "forfarian" these being two of the "gurus" who I know through the Aberdeenshire List. -- Best wishes Ray ********************************************************** >From Ray Hennessy Forenames website: www.whatsinaname.net Preferred Email address: ray@whatsinaname.net **********************************************************
Arlene I don't have any connection with the family of BALFOURS - but I do have connections with the MANN's of FORFAR.
